AB 1634 may be WITHDRAWN

according to local Sacramento news, Levine has stated publicly that he will withdraw his bill for the year after testimony as he does not have the votes. If he tries to bring it back in any form next January WE WILL BE READY!!

I will update you with a confirmation on todays events as soon as I can.

For now give yourselves a big pat on the back and give your dogs a cookie, we've all earned it!

And our next step? help get Levine O U T of the California legislature!

Important Topic thanks Vicky

Vicky,
This is one of the many items that the BCA Legislative Committee hopes to address this year at Nationals. It is not really an option at this point, the same as Rescue and the Charity fund.
The events of this past legislative session across the country have dictated that there is a tremendous need for much more involvement at all levels from the AKC - BCA to you personally!
We have alot of work to do! My hope is that it will be work we will all share in.
Ward

I agree ...

with Vicky and Jennifer, LEVINE HAS TO GO! I am from San Bernardino Co. which is not close enough to Levine's district but, those who are from his district must vote his butt out of office or he will keep coming back trying to pass the same bill or something similar.

Bulldoggers WE DID IT!!!!! YOUR VOICES WERE HEARD!!!!
A huge debt of gratitude to Jennifer Joseph Div. III BCA Legislative Committee Member, for spearheading the fight in California, with out Jennifer it would have been tremendously difficult!! and to all the Bulldoggers who wrote, called, signed petitions, donated money pat yourself on the back for this victory!!!
The one bad thing is we may have won the battle, but the war rages on!!!
Be ever observant someone somewhere is looking for the way to take your rights away...

CA 1634 was to be heard today in committee but was withdrawn as the sponsor
didn't have the necessary votes for passage. It could be back at a future
date. Unfortunately this same type legislation is being proposed all over
the country now by "animal rights" extremists so the battle is far from
over. City by city, state by state. They never give up -- sorta like Texas
fireants, just keep popping up.
Stay tuned as we'll have an announcement soon regarding similar legislation
being proposed in Texas.

Pet Sterilization Bill Will Be Put On Hold
Levine Says Legislation Lacks Needed Support

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A controversial bill that would require mandatory
spaying and neutering of most California cats and dogs will be shelved, the
author told KCRA 3 in an exclusive interview Wednesday morning.

Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, D-Van Nuys, said he planned to pull AB 1634
following a scheduled hearing before the state Senate Local Government
Committee.

"It pains me to have to tell everybody this, but I've been reading the
handwriting on the wall and it doesn't look like we have the votes," Levine
said.

Levine said the legislation is needed to curb the number of unwanted pets
that end up being euthanized. But the bill is opposed by a number of dog
breeder organizations.

Levine said he was disappointed and saddened that he had to drop the bill
for now.

"Not only, as you know, do we have ... hundreds of thousands of dogs and
cats suffering in animal shelters, but we're spending hundreds of millions
of dollars in taxpayer money on that, and unfortunately the tactics of my
opponents have just made it such that we can't move on," Levine said.

Levine added that it was too early to tell when and if the legislation will
be reintroduced.

"We need some time to regroup," he said.

it would be nice if all the clubs would

have funraisers to raise money against laws like this. We have disaster funds, why not a political fight fund?

we have breathing room...

But this was only round one.

Don't get me wrong, this was a BIG win but the bill is only tabled and it'll be back come January with all new bells and whistles so we can lend out the troops but they need to keep one foot in California and be ready when our four star generals call:

Thank you Bill, Kelley, John, Barry, Cyndi, Joan, Patti, Margaret, Susan, Joanne, Geneva, George, Dr. Hamil, Dr Buchard ..... the list goes on and on

Way to Go Jennifer and all the others

As Ward said, give yourselves a pat on the back. But the war will rage on. NJ is now working on somthing of the same sort. Lets pack up the troops and move East!

Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.

We had

a very similar bill a few years back..they pulled it and now have re-introduced it again. So we have a fight against us.

Just-LoneStar Bulldogs

LOYD LIED AND TRIED TO PUSH IT THROUGH

But the Senators were not buying what he was selling. the bill is tabled until January

we hope to be a good example...

of how to fight off an all out frontal AR assault. The next step is to build into an even bigger force to crush this thing next year and start getting public opinion around to our side. And yes, Lyin' Loyd needs to GO!

The plans for this stuff is in the works.

And California will help other states with the experience we've gained here. The war on this bill is not over, but this was a HUGE step and we are getting our political sea legs under us now.

Jen

Yay!

Especially to Jennifer, thanks for working so hard!

NOW HELP IN NJ!

I am so glad to hear this. I just hope the momentum to help in other states besides your own carries through.
