38 lb bitch ?

I have a 38 pound bitch. My biased opinion she has alot of great qualities but she is 38 lbs. I have not shown her yet she just turned 2. Would i be chastised for showing her. i was also wondering if anyone could share photos of standard 40 pound bitches. Thanks

My 42# girl.....

like others have said balance is the key word, but I will be honest...I feel my balanced standard girl gets overlooked in the ring at times....mostly/especially at the all breeds.

Nevermind above post.... Pics can be so decieving.

She looks so much bigger than that. I have a 2 year old male that I have the same problem. He just won't keep weight very well. We have to work at it.

Thanks

Thanks I will try and post some pics. The responses were more positive then I thought.

I had a "small" one...

I say "small", but the better term is "standard". My Sarah was about 42 lbs when she finished her championship at 14 months.

I have a little one too

My girl is about 39lbs... she's definitely small compared to the other girls at the shows I think that she probably has some more filling out to do... maybe just putting on a few pounds would do the trick..

I've shown her twice and I feel like I had mixed responses from the bulldog people that I spoke too. Everyone seemed to think that she could gain some weight, but they also pointed out some good points. I'm really quiet so I don't think I got as much out of being at a show full of bulldog people as I could have.

I don't think that you'll be chastised for having a small bitch. Go show her and have fun, I've learned a lot even just going to shows and watching. And anyway, according to the AKC standard dogs should be about 50lbs and about bitches 40

I would love to see pictures of your girl, & if you email me (allikc84@yahoo.com) I'll mail you some pictures of mine.

Here's my little girl, Pip...

...she was 2 in Sept. She weighs about 41-42# now, but is a picky eater and needs about 4-5# more (she's about 15" tall) I haven't shown her much yet in breed as she is very hard to get weight on--I think once she adds a couple more pounds she should do very well in the ring.

Until then, we have been doing obedience...she was HIT at this past BCA nationals and now has her CD, RN & RA titles. It seems like a lot more judges are putting up the more standard sized girls lately--but you'll still find some who think "bigger is better" It doesn't seem like the size is a major factor in our breed--you'll see quite a variety of sizes--but a nice, balanced dog should do well.

You certainly don't get the idea she's a "tiny" thing...

from those pix! What a cute little girl! Of course, by the time she finishes maturing, she'll be a nice, standard-sized girl!

She is cute and squishy

just makes you want to smooch that sweet face.
