I think it would be a good idea to have a website for the nationals week to keep everyone that is and is not at the show up to date on everything that happened.
1. Daily, realtime results.
2. Pictures of all the winners in each class and category.
3. Videos of some of the dogs in the ring.
4. Videos of some of the seminars.
5. Etc, etc.
Is that asking alot? Yes. But, you don't get much if you don't ask!
Honestly though, I have always thought that it is a shame that these things are not available. Having just a basic website to do this is so easy to accomplish these days, I don't see why it couldn't be done with just a little planning and some $.
I think that a nice website would really make the Nationals week come to life. There's the obvious benefits for those that cannot attend. But, most people that do attend don't have time to see all the dogs, let alone remember all the dog and people names that they met or would have liked to remember. There's alot of useful information that's exchanged during nationals week, at the seminars, in the hallways and in the ring - and it should be documented and shared with everyone, not just those that are fortunate to have a photographic memory and the ability to attend everything that Nationals has to offer.
Anyone agree, or am I preaching to the choir again. And I know there's someone reading this that is saying to themselves (well s*** Skip, why don't YOU do the website!). Certainly, I'd be more than happy and willing to help.
yes i think a site should be required
for nationals results, as part of the whole nationals agenda. another part to what is already done each time.

you can ask the show super for a disc
of the cataloge. We had one at our show a few years back. You have to have someone who is not showing and able to do the entry. If any mistakes someone will get pisssy.
I do love knowing when im at home what is going on. Nationals is crazy, little time to get on line and keep things updated. Cell phones are rining off the hook, with people trying to get a glimps of results. Its' not easy.
Good idea
That's the stuff I am talking about - just simple "transfering of information". I assume the show catalog is in someone's computer. Someone can just put a 1,2,3 and 4 next to the placements, then post the file to the website. I'm not a techie, but were talking minimal effort here.
I'd be willing to do some legwork to see if having an updated, informative nationals website is feasible.
Would it cost some $ - well yes, but I think the educational and informational benefits would out-weigh the cost.
How cool would it be to have a nice video of the 1958 show when Ch. Vardona Frosty Snowman won? I would love to see that. I am sure some goof like me will want to see what Rock or Windy looked like in the ring in the year 2060!
Education, information and preservation.
Just want you
guys to know I am listening to everything you are saying, and you all have some very good ideas. I am going to try my best to make some of this happen. If anyone has any other suggestions please email me or post them..This is what should be happening..we need to try to make the week work best for our exhibitors and spectators as much as possible!

2008 Nationals Website?
How bout maybe just setting up a Streaming video session "Live" on the floor. Not too hard to do these days with EVDO Internet cards.
Anyone not there in person can log on to a website to see the show - "Live".
Just another thought..

Randy
Re: 2008 Nationals Website?
craig folz used to post the results in real time.. but he spent hours at the computer at the shows. It was great, but really takes up allot of time. Yes there are many things that would make these shows even better, but be aware that the offering of precious time is not always easy for people to do.
Hopefully the things you requested will be managed.

Re: 2008 Nationals Website?
Things are in the works, but all of this is not so easy. Nationals takes allot of man power that most Clubs do not have, and between running around running the show and possibly showing their own dogs, attending the seminars, etc..time isn't always easy to find, nor is the man power to do some of the things that you suggested. The show used to be documented on a video that people could buy, but sales weren't worth continueing to do it. Now people seem to be requesting it again, so we may offer it again, if we can find someone willing to do it. Videos of the seminars aren't always possible either. Some of the speakers require you to pay for the seminar and buy the DVD, etc. The education committee is now working on some of the items that are offered as an education seminar to be available on the BCA website so you can view it there whenever you want. This is all in the works and will take some time.

In 2008 we will have someone doing daily placement updates, wins, etc. for sure.
