X/P: Dog ate 3-4 days worth of food (the little sneak) -- what should I expect now?

I need some advice from you wise men and women.

Maddie got into the cabinet while we were out and ate the rest of the dog food (and tore the bag apart while she was at it). We came back a few hours later to find the remains of the bag (and her first poop from it).

Her belly's hanging a bit low from it all.

Wondering what we can expect in terms of when she'll pass it through, what we should do about feeding in the meantime, and other advice (other than do a better job of closing the cabinets!).

Thanks all.

Thanks Elaine

Unfortunately she drank a lot of water last night but the good news is she had a massive poop (loss though) this morning. Her stomach is less extended but still pretty heavy. We'll ease up on the water and we cut her food portion in half today. Thank you so much for the advice.

Hopefully she'll be okay. Suggest the following:

1-limit the amoutn of water she takes at one time for next 24hrs...the food will "swell" in her belly with water intake, and she does need some but you don't want it all to explode at once, so maybe 1/2 cup at 2-3 hr intervals.

2-limit her rough activity until she has had 3 poops! BLOAT is my concern which is a twist of her intestines/stomach from too much activity just after eating, especially with having more than she usually takes in, so walks on leash but no wrestling or jumping around until that food has passed thru.

3-she may need a bit of oil if she acts constipated...perhaps a teasp of olive oil or veggie oil on her next meal, which will be very small amount after she's had at least one poop. If you have canned dogfood I'd give her that tomorrow, 1/2 of 12oz can.
