I am a degreed vet tech, not claiming to be a vet, but this is what I was taught by a vet and it has worked well. I get the Safeguard (fenbendazole) for horses that is 100mg/g paste. It is for tapes, whips, hooks and rounds. The dosage for dogs is 22.7mg/lb. 1 gram is equal to 1 ml. So if you have a 40 pound dog you would do this calculation 40lb x 22.7mg = 908mg divide by 100mg/g = 9.08mls once a day for three days in a row. I have actually come up with a quick calculation. It will be off by a little but it works well and I have used it for years. I only treat once every six months. My dogs are also on Interceptor and when I treat with Safeguard I treat in the middle of the month since my dogs get Interceptor at the beginning of every month. The quick calculation.... 2 mls per 10 lbs so you would give your 40 lbs dog 8 mls once a day for three days in a row.

I worm my horses with Strongid paste a couple times a year. I had heard it was a much, much stronger dosage than you would want to try worming a dog with though (even small amounts). I am interested in the response you get. I bet someone out there knows!

I would never give worming medication to a dog unless I knew for certain that he/she had worms, and then of course, one needs to know what type(s). Indiscriminate frequent worming can irritate the GI tract and dibilitate an already compromised animal. Unless you allow your dog to roam around the public park unleased (out of immediate sight) scarfing up whatever he can find, its unlikely your dog will contract worms beyond the puppy stage, and even then many pups don't need to be wormed at all. If your multi-dog household routinely comes up with worms, they must be in the soil of your yard...in which case I'd treat the yard rather than just treating the dogs.

I assumed he meant horse wormer being used to worm dogs as well!! (because I assume everything is horse related!) Nemex is the Pyrantel dog wormer you can purchase at the feed store.
