Whole litter of Water Babies...Colostrun

I had a litter of 9 of water babies (some worst than others). We have lost the 4 really bad ones last night. My questions is I'm a little confused on nursing. I can't get them to nurse because of the water in their faces....is it better to use Just born w/ colostrum or goats milk for nursing (the bottle fits in their mouth). I'm really confused on this, as I don't know which is better. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

Did your vet give them Lasix to help shed the water?

Did he tell you to stimulate them often to help shed the water?

They really need to nurse on their mother to bring in the milk.

I've always used straight goats milk when I've had to supplement.

Good luck,
Sue

Yes, we had lasix & was peeing every second LOL!!!

Thank you VERY much for the help...This was her second litter...only one last time & it pulled threw...this was just CRAZY. I do cranberry, no salt, NOTHING changed.....it's really hard to understand sometimes. It always seems like when I have a litter I struggle with them nursing the first day or two, either mom will NOT settle down, or pups won't nurse. After 3 or 4 days no problem, but I struggle with this & always have. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INFORMATION!!!!

Thecolostrum in supplemental puppy formula like Just Born is cow colostrum and really doesn't do anything for the pups (sounds good, though). Puppy formula with goat's milk instead of cow's milk is more easily digested--I would go with that. Really need to try to encourage them to suck on Mom. Sue is correct--they need to pee a lot to get rid of the fluid. I know some vets do not prescribe lasix--they let time take care of the problem. Lasix can easily throw off their potassium levels--which is needed for cardiac conductivity so unless their blood levels are being checked I would be careful with the lasix. High air temp (100-102 degrees) for 24-36 hours can also help pull off the water (dehydrates the pups.) I have had 1 or 2 waterpups in a litter but never an entire litter. I would seriously consider not breeding the Mom again.
