Hey all, Tank is doing much better after his few bouts of pneumonia. We've been nebulizing him multiple times per day and bringing him in a steamy shower for coupage daily.
However, he still sounds really "gurgley" sometimes and I think it's due to all the saliva and foam that gets stuck in the back of his throat. It sounds like he's breating underwater when its really bad. We think that he used to aspirate this stuff and that's why he kept getting pneumonia, so naturally, we are scared it will happen again if he gets too excited or something.
Does anyone know of a medicine or method to keep saliva production/foam down?? We've used lemons and it doesn't seem to work well with Tank.
Thanks
!
I've got to try that
Thanks for the tip about sprite and Zeniquin. He's been on Baytril and Zpacks in the past which worked to clear him up, but not completely vanquish the pneumonia. I'm glad to hear your baby got better and that it cleared up the gurgling sound!!

He had palate surgery
Thanks, yes he's had the soft palate surgery already (back in November 2008). We give him lemon juice and bits of lemon but it hasn't helped that much. He doesn't throw up, but the gurgles build up and sometimes he coughs it up and swallows it. That usually helps reduce the sound.

I agree...the lemon juice in the yellow squirt lemon bottle work
if it doesn't work for your boy, you could try giving him some Sprite or 7-Up, which sometimes works better than the lemon juice...depending on the bully.
My Punkie B had pneumonia just like your baby. I didn't think we would ever get her over it. We did the same treatments, etc...the pneumonia just kept hanging on. My vet finally prescribed Zeniquin and she was completely better in just two days. After the full round of Zeniquin, she was in perfect health and the "gurgling" stopped as well.
Good luck with your baby, there's nothing worse than a baby bully being sick!

Have you had his palate evaluated
Sounds like an elongated soft palate. Have you had him evaluated by a bulldog vet? The lemon juice in the yellow plastic squirt bottle works best to clear the throat. Does he throw up the foam or just make a gurgling sound?
