What do fleas look like?

We have found these tiny little bugs in Gunther's fur. They are black and really fast. I try to get it off his fur, and it crawls back down into the fur and I can't get it. There's not a ton, but we have seen maybe 5 in the last week or two.

Are these fleas? He is not itching anymore than normal...

or perhaps I should say, he's not itching..

Without seeing a picture, I am going to surmise they are fleas.

I would immediately get him on flea control and get your house cleaned....they will explode in population very very quickly.

Fleas are dark brown and move very fast. They look black unless you are under good light. They will burrow as fast as they can back into the fur when they are exposed.

First you are going to need to wash all his bedding and anything you can wash that hes been in contact with use HOT WATER. I wash just about everything because I get paranoid. LOL

If I see fleas, I use Sevin Dust 5% which can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot. Use an old time flour sifter and spread it over your flooring/carpets/radiators. Keep the animals in another room. and leave it down for a few hours or overnight if possible. Try not to breathe it. It's not poisonous to the animals as long as they don't ingest a lot of it but I like to keep Onslow away anyhow. Hardwoods/tiles/linoleum etc mop well with hot water and vinegar, rinse.

Vacuum everything up really well and throw out the garbage bag if you have one. If not wash the canniser in hot water.

Finally bath the dog in a flea shampoo. In a pinch you can use Dawn Dish Soap. Good luck. Like Amy said they spread like wildfire so its good to get it under control quick.

And like Amy said

to prevent it in the future you need a preventative like Frontline.

You can treat your yard with the sevindust too before a rain.

It is probably fleas.

You should just get some Frontline, put it between his shoulder blades & be done with it.
