At what age can you start to breed a stud?

I was just wondering. I have a 5 month old puppy, which I would imagine is WAY too young. He is one of the puppies from the litter my bitch bred last summer. I have decided not to breed her again, because it was way too difficult on my children to loose one of the pups and then not be able to keep the others. I did extensive research before I got Mom and did even more to find her a suitible stud. Both of my bullies are great and come from wonderful lines. I have not made up my mind if I want to breed him or not, I want to make sure I am well educated before I do. I have asked the breeder of the stud I used, but I would like some more input.

Thanks for the advice!

AKC requires...

That they be at least 7 mos. But I agree 100% with Robin.

The right time is AFTER he has been successfully shown and has passed the full compliment of health checks, i.e. CERF, OFA of hips, knees, elbows, heart, and is of good temperment via ATT.
Then you can start to think about how he might improve the breed if he is selectivly offered to females that also meet the above criteria.
