and i understand about texas i have a freind their...and living on water....but in my old age i have gotten more and more into the environment....my newphews go and catch me 5 big bullfrogs....i set up a nice area for them..hang a bug lite over their little enclousure....and they go to it...you cant believe what they eat....then after a month they stay right around....its not easy and it is frustrating some times....but once you get into a routine....i have an acre of land and 6 bug lites.....my chickens and my frogs we do ok....i lite the mosquitoes candles every nite....because like you being near water has alot of draw backs....
so get yourself a chicken and some bullfrogs you'll love it when they sing....spray some off on the dogs...lime your yard once a week....
and smell the flowers..........

would love to be there right now! we vacationed there a few years ago and i will never forget how beautiful your part of the usa is. we live at the lake in east texas. the lake is our front yard...it is so hot and humid here and always lots of bugs! if i could have chickens in my yard, i would! we don't usually have any problems with ticks but fleas and mosquitos will carry you away down here!

mass and i live right near a pond....i always lime my yard which kills the fleas....and ticks....i also wash my dogs in citri lux shampoo...this reples fleas and ticks....ok you can laugh at this but my friend has chickens and she brings two over for the day and they clean the yard of ticks....their is just to many natural things we can do,,,yes its a bit of work not as easy as applying a frontline....but my guys are happy and healthy....

i use essential oils and we treat our yard but i worry about "bugs" because we have tons of fleas, ticks and mosquitos here...main concern is heartworms...if i see fleas, i use frontline but i hate using it!!

their all dangerous anything that goes into the nervouse system cannot be harmless....in over 30 years of breeding and owning dogs i have never used any flea products or heartworm preventive and i have never had any problems....maybe becaue i raw feed and my dogs natural system repels fleas and kicks....i use off spray....i also use skin so soft from avon!!!!....
i know their was a lady on this board who dog was burned badly from flea products....
people need to stop blindly listening to their vets about certain things and use common sense....
would you use any of these things on your self or kids...if not stop using them on your dogs....
