Very sick bulldog

hello,

I have a very sick 9 year old bully. About two weeks ago we noticed some bloating for a couple days we passed it off as gas and treated it. Well the bloating did not go away. Cleo was eating normal and using the bathroom with no problems at all. Well last friday we made an appointment with the vet and had some x-rays done. The vet said that there was ALOT of fluid build up and that it was hard to see her organs but what he could see of them things did not look right he was really worried about her. He was throwing out technical terms but what it came down to was this could be life threatening (what ever it is) She is home and on steroids and anti-biotics to see is we can get the fluid build up down and the biotics to make sure it's not an infection. She is eating ,drinking and using the bathroom like normal.I guess what I need to know is if anyone has dealt with this before? We go to the vet the detroit Bulldog club recomends so we do have a very good vet.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Cassie

CHF

We have heard her sneeze a little recentley but thats it. The vet put her on steroids and anti-biotics only. She has another appointment tomorrow. We are making a list of things to ask...but I think it is CHF too. sad.gif

Not that I have heard

But I will check with my mother in the morning and see if she has noticed anything.

For CHF?

Yes there are meds for CHF. My Mom's Poodle took enalapril, lasix and vetmedin. Is your dog coughing?

Could be Congestive Heart Failure

I've had 3 dogs with CHF.

Good luck

thats the problem...

there is no diagnosis. They could not see anything to diagnose. They are hoping the steroid had cleared out enough fluids to get a better x-ray this time. I have been looking around...i think it may be Pulmonic Stenosis?

What was the diagnosis?

It would be hard for anyone to give advice/experience with a particular illness without knowing what is wrong with your dog.

CHF is the first suspicion at her age...

since it manifests in circulatory problems, and its often accompanied by a 'dry cough' and lethargy. Do her limbs (toes, ears, etc) feel "cold"? Did your vet run a blood panel? That would test her kidneys, liver, pancreas and give a general evaluation on her other major organs. Was she put on diuretics? I would expect that if she's holding fluids...and you'd see urinating more frequently, just as you would with steroids. Sigh, sounds like her body is wearing down. Medications may slow the process and keep her more comfortable but she sounds like she's feeling her years.
