Tongue laceration

Bella just got back from the dog park after being attacked from another bully. He bit her tongue which is about a quarter inch long and seems like a small puncture wound on the bottom. It bled a little and she doesn't seem like she's in any pain. Gave her some ice cubes when we got back home. Daryl just looked at the wound and the wound itself is a little swollen as can be expected. Has anyone else had a bully with a tongue wound? How should I care for it? Should I get her into the vet? I'll try to get a pic posted if she cooperates, shes a little camera shy.

As always Elaine is right on!

Because is a puncture and with the bacteria in the mouth A/B's are probably in order.  There is also a new mouth rinse out, ask your vet.  It's a dental rinse, but it's supposed to remove the bacteria in the mouth too.  The taste isn't bad since my shar-pei who has terrible mouth ulcers due to his face folds, is using it and he was in quite a bit of pain.  I am so sorry to hear she got hurt.  I  really don't like those dog parks.  Most of the time it's a social event for the owners.  Just my opinion.  You could aloso try yogurt for her and cottage cheese. soft stuff.  then rinse her mouth really well.

I don't think it needs immediate attention

but call your vet in the morning. It's going to be darn sore.

Agree...ask the vet if he thinks she needs a/b's...

I'd try to soak her food or moisten it for the next several days as her mouth will be sore!
