Thyroid and breeding question

Thanks to some of you alls help my Princess was put on thyroid meds about 2 months ago. So my question is how long does she need to be on the meds before I try to breed her? I would hate to breed her and it be to little time on meds and her absorb pups. Thanks in advance!

but until people are more open & honest about thier lines things wont change. look at how many people are avoiding the Bulldog studies that are evenpartially paid for right now. And for the newer people like me, you often have to start from the bottom and work with what you have. So maybe the dog you start with is not perfect in every way bu that doesnt mean you cant do your best in breeding out the faults and seletivly evaluating the pups to enter your breeding program with spay and neuter contracts on the rest. Think about this...how many Bulldogs go on to be Champions that have known health issues? how many of those are passed on thier ther get? But wait, the judge gave them a Chapion title with a fancy peice of paper! Doesnt that make them BREEDING STOCK? According to conformational showing it does.

Just a few thoughts to think about...

there are tons of bitches out there who

have low normal thyroids from what i have found. After Mias ordeal i was surpriseed at how many people privatly emailed and shared thier experience. Its a hot topic. But if this were something you didnt feel was a reason to breed, then the next question would be this: is it fair to go ahead and put a bitch on a thyroid medication just to increase her chances of having a larger litter, not absorbing pups, accepting the breeding etc. Or are you playing with mother nature.

As for me..I really dont feel there is enough reserach done on this to take a side. But i am treating my bitch and if all goes well she will be bred.

Why we breed.

I feel one must ask some questions of ourselves about our motivations for breeding. Is it to make money? Is it to get another dog for ourselves? Is it to improve the breed? Concientious breeders should be concerned with soundness, health, breed standard correctness, and temperament to always improve the breed by using only breeding stock that can meet all these qualifications. With careful breeding pairings of excellent healthy bloodlines we can eliminate the prediliction to the bad problems facing our wonderful bullies, like elongated pallet, constricted nares, knee caps out of place, skewed faces, spina bifita, head tremors, interdigital cysts, food and contact allergies. Diabetes, thyroid concerns, cherry eye, intropian eyelid, can all be eliminated by hard research into the pedigrees of the chosen bitch and dog. I,just for me, would chose not to breed if one of the breeding pair exhibits any of these problems. We have too many dogs in need of rescue because unwise breedings just make the problem larger.

Not really a thyroid problem just a low normal thyroid

Should a dog with thyroid problems be bred?

Couldn't those problems be passed on to the puppies?
