Thinking of getting another bulldog!!!!!

Cooper just turned 1 in March.  I think he would love to have a playmate.  I have been told that you should get the opposite sex because if you have 2 males or 2 females they may not get along as well together?   I thought it would be ok if they were brought up at young ages????  My husband is worried that they would need to be quarantined from each other because when we got Cooper he was 9 wks old and we were told to keep him away from other dogs until his stool was ok and vaccines were current. Would we have to keep them  separate?  I would love to have anyones opinion on this!!!  I just think Cooper would love a brother or sister.

I'm sure he would love to have a friend.

No, you wouldn't have to keep them seperated as long as your boy is healthy and current on shots. Just don"t take the pup to any places frequented by dogs you don't know like a dog park, any park really and PetCo like places.

That would be wonderful!

I only have one bully, because of my circumstances. I think it is far better to have two if possible.

If you post on the general forum, you will surely get some very good info. Many, if not most, have more than one.

I think you will get quicker replies if you post there.

Keep us posted!

By the way, Cooper is a darling bully.

I have two bullies

My oldest was four when I got a new puppy.  I have two boys and they do just fine.  Every once in a while they have their moments, as the younger one is the dominate.  I love having two and can't imagine not having two in the future.

Everything is an adjustment and just take your time.  Good luck!

Your bully is just beautiful.  Do post this on the regular forum.

getting another bulldog

I have five.  Both Male and female.  I got a female first, then about three months later I got a male, then five months after that another male.  The next year I got a male and female brother and sister act.  The first two male got along okay at first but then they started to fight.  One is a very confident laid back dog, but the other is a little skittich.  I hired a trainer because I didn't want to get rid of any of them, I just don't believe in that once you get them it's a life long commitment for me.  Well, she has worked wodners.  we have built up the cinfidence level in the one that was afraid, and I have complete control.  I don't let my guard down, but I know I can read what's going on and stop it before it happens.  I guess at this point with you, I would probably gt a female. What's is your males temperment?

I would / I did

We got Buddy, and he was a handful.  So we got Brother, his half brother.  They are just fine.  The younger wants to be the alpha, and Buddy doesn't care too much.  When they play with a jolly ball, or pull toy they sound like they are killing each other, but they aren't.  As rough as they get I only saw blood once, from a chin pimple, but it looked scarey on a white dog.  Now around a female, I don't know yet.  Good Luck

Don't listen to the rule about same sexes not getting along,

It has nothing to do with sexes, it is the individual dog. I have 3 males that live together just fine, and when my 3 males got visits from my dad's male, they were all fine. My female is worse with the males than the males are together. We take the males for walks together, they do everything together, and they vary in age from, 7,3 and 1yr.

Yoo only needed to keep your pup away from other dogs when you got him, because they might not have had their shots or been dewormed, you know if your current dog is healthy, so you don't have to keep them seperate. Good luck!
