surgical removal with sutures or laser (palate surgery)

As many of you know Boog is going for palate surgery. Just read a comment by someone that feels that the dogs that have surgical removal instead of laser do better in the longterm, (less reoccurence) Just hoping a few of you with experience will share your opinion. I'm going to meet with the veterinary surgeon this week and I'd like to discuss it with him, and the more info I have the better!

We did laser

Our vet's opinion was that laser was the better option due to less risk of bleeding and a faster recovery time. Dozer did very well with the procedure and he seemed to bounce back very quickly, much faster than I though he would. We were also told that the dogs age is important. Our vet wanted us to wait until Dozer was at least a year old. Dozer's surgery was done when he was 15 months old.

I'm not sure what one has to do with the other...

As far as I know, repeat palate resection has more to do with the age the first one was done (was it before the dog was fully grown?) and if the proper amount was removed.
The only things I've read about laser vs scapel is:
Laser - faster recovery. Increased chance of swelling due to heat from the laser. Less bleeding.
Scapel - increased chance of bleeding. More post-op irritation due to more sutures "tickling" the back of the throat (can stimulate a gag reflex). Longer healing time.
I had Q done bt laser about 1 1/2 years ago, and he's fine (he was 16 months when it was done). happy.gif
