Hank is 9 months old now and I am just wondering about his sleeping patterns. Should he be sleeping through the night? Is it common for them to wake up so much? Hank is usually asleep by 10 pm but wakes up ON THE SPOT around 3 am and wants to walk around and change bedrooms (he sleeps with me some nights, with my mom others). Once he switches or gets back in bed he sleeps for about another 2.5 hours and then is scratching to wake us up so we will feed him (5:45 am usually). Is this just the routine he has settled into? Is there ANything I can do to get him to sleep through the night? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Restless nights.....
we have this which seems about every other night. What we found out was we walk our dogs every other night about 4 blks or 45 min walk and on those nights the dogs sleep WELLLLL. Maybe a walk before bedtime would help.

he has you trained very well.
It is just a bad habit he has developed because you have reinforced it. He should be ignored at night. Perhaps stick to the same routine every night i.e. the same sleeping quarters all night long. If he is healthy he does not need anything other than sleep at night. Unless you get up early to go to work, he does not need to be fed that early. You may have to endure an unhappy bully for a few nights, but it will pay off in the end.
My boy slept all night the first night at 8 weeks and every night since. He is 5 1/2 now. (I slept with my hand in his crate and hardly slept myself) I gradually moved the crate away from my bed and then into the dining room.
I love the person who invented dog crates. Now he sleeps in it with the door open. He sleeps on my bed if I invite him only and that is about 1/2 the time. Just my system.
You have a smart one too...
I am sleep deprived also...Hooch has allergies and knows that i won't let him injure himself with scratching so he uses it for attention at 2 a.m. And yep, I give him a quick snack so we can just get back to bed!
