Tank has had soft stools followed by a little diarrea for the past two days. This morning there were strands of blood in his diarrea. Is this a red flag to bring him to vet, or can I still try to give him canned pumpkin and rice/ground beef? Should I bring a stool sample to the vet tonight?
THanks all!

you may a something a bit stronger than pupmkin....i would have a bland diet of brown rice and boiled hamburger/chicken....but dont wait to get the sample tested.....their are to many bugs that carry our babies off....

with blood in the stool and with diarrhea, if he's a puppy could be coccidia or giarrdia. When my puppy came home he had a similar problem and was diagnosed with giarrdia, he had to take 2 rounds of albon and a round of pancur to finally rid of it. He was eating and playing like normal, just the diarrhea with some mucus and blood. I was worried so we took a sample to the vet and have it tested. So yes, bring a fresh sample to the vet about 1-2 hrs in a ziplock bag and the vet can test it, in the meantime she will probably give albon or flagyl for you to take home. It should help and once she find out about the stool sample she can give another medication. Sometimes 2 rounds are necessary to rid the problem. Good Luck
