Just noticed in the sun today that my 4 month old Puppy (Frank The Tank) has spots with missing hair. Nothing looks out of the ordinary, (inflamation, redness, scabs.) Not in any one place either, one about 2mm on his back, one on a leg. He also has some spots on the top of his head. Other thatn that his skin and coat are looking really healthy. Any ideas?
thanks-update
I just took Lola to the vet and the scrapings came back negative we are demodex free!! Thanks for all your help.I hope your puppy is better soon as well.

Had the vet do a Scrape
So I toof him to the vet almost two weeks ago. He said that it was Demodex. Gave me two pills to give twice a day and a shampoo to use once a week. Spots are still there. I have to take him back in on Saturday for a two week check up. How long before it usually goes away?

I followed the directions posted on this site ......
I believe it was Elaine, and she said:
Use the plain brown listerine( the original stuff, not the minty) to gently
wash the spots.. I use a cotton ball/pad soaked pretty good. Then I let it
dry, about 10 minutes. After skin and fur are dry, dust with some gold bond powder. It must feel pretty good, as my Daisy is always calm and cooperative
by the time I get to the powder! Another suggestion from this site that I followed was to use tape to seal off all but one or two holes in the Gold Bond top.. that way you can control the powder better. This site is just a wonder source of information!!! Good Luck. Let me know how/if it works!

Listerine and Gold Bond
My 4 month puppy also has Demodex. We thought it was allergies and after a week of anti-hist and steroids, and plain diet (chicken and rice) saw no improvement. We then had her scraped and it was Demodex. She is being treated with Promeris and Pyoben shampoo. She is looking better..not alot of hair loss, just really pink skin on head and neck.
I saw the post awhile back about using the Listerine and Gold Bond powder, so
I bought both.... she seems to really enjoy the coolness of them, and it calmed down the pink. Our vet (a very trusted and prominent Bullie Vet) said that the listerine/gold bond powder is a good treatment!!
Good luck!

food allergy
Max had those same spots, a friend told me it looked like mange, so I took him to the vet and after $236 was told it was food allergies, he was given antibiotic, and a special shampoo, and I was told to change his food.

I have puppy with demodex
I have a puppy that has demodex, and i'm having some problems. i was just wondering if anyone had heard of using listerine, and gold bond? I'm doing everything that the vet says to do, but i feel bad for her, so if there is anything else i can do to help i would love to know!!

Vet scraping is most prudent.
It will rule out fungal, bacterial or viral infection. Your vet will then know which and how to treat. It may also be an allergy to the protein in your pup's food. A single source protein (food containing only salmon, only lamb-not a mixture of or with chicken and or beef parts) and a non-regular grain additive like sweet potato or rice may be a change a vet will recommend. There are several brands available-just read the labels carefully. A special food will cost more than an "off the shelf" but I have found one gets what one pays for usually. In the long run, the special diet will more than pay for itself in fewer visits to the vet and a happier Bully!

It could be demodex mange
If it doesn't get better on it's own or you see more spots then you should take him to the vet for a scraping.
Puppy mange is certainly not out of the ordinary and can be easily taken care of.
