We are thinking of switching to raw. No particular reason except for the fact that it sort of makes sense to me in the sense that that would be what they eat in the wild. So a few questions for you raw feeders out there.......
1. Do you buy the pre-packaged (like Nature's Variety) or make your own?
2. For those of you that make your own, how do you do it? Grind it up or feed it whole?
3. Do you add fruits/veggies in there?
4. Do you grind up the bone as well?
5. Do you need any other supplements?
6. How do you know how much to feed? We have a 1 year old 55 pound male and a 15 week old 20-25ish pound male.
7. What would a typical meal consist of? Could you give me an example of what you would feed in the morning? Evening?
8. What do you give as treats?
9. How are the poops?
10. Have you developed anything like tear stains, etc.?
11. What types of meats do you use? Fish?
Any information you could give me regarding raw feeding would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!
raw feeding.....
first keep it very simple..... 80%meat 10% bone and 10% organs....
start with chicken first....i grind any bird bone...the only whole bones i feed are lamb ribs....
my crew average about 52 to 60 lbs.....i feed one lb of meat a day....i like to do 1/2 am then pm...
i do not buy pre made because its not just the kibble your getting away from but all the ingredients....if you buy pre made and the bag has a list of 20 things to keep it fresh your missing the point.....many people think only of the grains that make dogs sick...but its also those ingredients that take up half of the bag to list!!!!
yes i add veggies their not needed but i like to any way....
my main proteins are chickn,lamb,turkey,.....
as a treat once a month i get pigs feet....they love these and spend all day chewing...
i also get beef hearts and liver...
