Soft Palate?

Lola is two years old.  She has just started having difficultlybrathing, very noisy, can run around outside, she pants so bad.  i know it's hot, but she is also throwing up almost every morning, somtimes bile, with white foam, sometimes just white foam.  Her eye are red and I took her to the vets and shw was really swollen in her throat.  She hasn't gotten into anything, but her feet are itchy too, she's always chewing on them.  Coat looks good too.  I was thinking maybe it's allgeries verses soft palate, because se is two and has never had a prblem before? I have an apoointment with a specialist for the palate, but the vet is out of the office until the 14 of August.

Re: sounds alot like allergies.....

I understand about the cost. I wanted to tell you about Care Credit, in case you did not know about it.
It is a way to get veterinary care and spread the payments out. Depending on the plan you can do it interest free. We had a dog that had lymphoma and the costs were extremely high and we used that to help pay for his chemo. Most veterinarians except that, but you need to check with the vet that you are using.
If it is a palate issue, depending on the severity, you may need to have it done sooner then later.
You might check into the Care Credit just in case. I do not know where you live but is there another "bulldog" vet in your area that you can take the dog to sooner then Aug. 14th?
I hope everything works out for you, but as I said, in the mean time I would not let the dog be doing a lot of running around, especially in the hot weather. I would keep her indoors in the AC for the most part. If the dog indeed has a palate issue you certainly do not want her to over heat.

Thaks Renee

She(the vet) taught this surgical procedure in Wyoming before coming to Wilmington, NC.  Lola is 2 yo now, but Spike had to have his palate suregery done at 6 mos, and then again at 14 months.

Re: sounds alot like allergies.....

Thanks I will try that.  I really can't afford surgery right now, with the veet bill I had last week with the puppies eating wild grapes, the bill ended up being over $1200.00.

Re: Soft Palate?

Sounds like it could be a little of both. I would try to keep her from doing too much running and panting hard, especially if it is hot outside. At least until you get her evaluated for a palate issue. 2 years old is not unusual. I had a 5 year old that started having more breathing issues as he started to get older and we ended up having his palate done then. Actually if it is a palate issue, in my opinion it is better to wait as long as you can before having it done, rather then having it done at a young age, like 10, or 11 months because if it is done too early, sometimes it has to be done again.
But what you are describing with the itching, red eyes, etc, also sounds like it could be some allergies going on. Try the Benedryl to see if that helps. Depending on where you live there are a lot of pollens out there that could be causing a lot of this.
Make sure that whom ever you are seeing regarding the palate is very familiar with bulldogs and I hope everything works out for you.
