skin issue near eye

The area around Tank's eye has been increasingly red and starting to get raw. I am trying to keep the area clean and dry but is there any home remedy I can use to help heal it that is safe to use so close to his eye area?

suggestion

cleaning around the eye does require some care as you don't want to get any products NOT designed for ophthalmic usage in the eye. Try to clean the stain track down the side of the face with some peroxide on cotton ball...2 or 3 times. I like peroxide because it evaporates and you should have a dry area, or nearly dry when you finish...blot with tissue if needed. Then put a thin strip of diaper ointment along the track which will provide a moisture-barrier and promote some healing at the same time. There are a variety of products you can use, A&D ointment, Desitin, or Aveeno Diaper Cream...I prefer the latter because it is basically unscented and some dogs (mine) balked at the smell of the Desitin. I suggest you re-do this EOD so you aren't rubbing the soreness too often yet you also are keeping the skin clean. After some of the redness disappears, you may only have to do this 1-2xweek. HTH
