I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this, at the time of birth, does the breeder give the pups an injection, at the nap of the neck, that would leave a scar and the outcome is no hair will grow where the injection was given?
The breeder told me it was a birth mark, but the Vet said, it was due to an injeciton site, but the Vet is clueless what was injected.

Baytril - side effects from Mar Vista website (read)
In immature dogs (less than 8 months of age) damage to joint cartilage can occur. This phenomenon is only seen in growing dogs and does not seem to be a problem in cats. It is preferable not to use this medication in puppies unless the severity of the infection present warrants it.

Baytril
Baytril is a very strong antibiotic... my vets wouldn't even think of giving a 10 month old pup this antibiotic. They won't do it until after 1 year of age! And only if they feel it is the best option at the time.

In all my years of bulldog ownership and care, this is "a first"
for me, that a breeder would inject a very young pup with antibiotic for therapeutic reasons?!! I also have concerns about a breeder who breaks so dramatically from normal protocol.

I don't know, but would like to hear what Rhiann says!
Sophie has never grown hair back on her Rabies injection site. She lost it within a week of the injection....three years ago.

that dont give baytril shots to ward off anything
I would not believe what this breeder told you and would ask for the vet records if you are considering this pup. I would also talk to the breeder.
IMO. I would find another breeder and pup

What the breeder tells me....
The breeder tells me it was a Baytril shot to ward off infection. I have never seen this before. It is shiny, cirular and the location is where a collar would sit.

Re: site injection
The only thing that comes to mind is if the pup was given fluids (for dehydration) or antibiotics for some reason. But if done correctly, neither would leave a mark or scar.
Was the pup given any vaccinations by the breeder or their Vet prior to you getting him? Maybe a call to the breeder might shed some light on the matter.
If no hair is growing on the area I might suspect a skin condition such as mange or a staph infection or an insect bite that has become irritated. A skin scraping would confirm or rule out mange or staph.
Sometimes a Lepto vaccination will leave a lump at the injection site, often taking a month or more to subside, but the dogs of mine that have had a reaction to the Lepto didn't lose hair there.
