Rimadyl....short term use. Any worries I should have?

Isabella will be on Rimadyl after her knee surgery. My vet says about 6-7 days worth. Anything I need to know about before I let her have that med?

Thanks guys, I haven't ever used it before, and want to be certain it won't hurt Issa.

Never had any problems with its use.

Thank you Kathy.

I haven't had to use it before. I will watch for those symptoms and ask what others I should be aware of.

My boy has just been weaned off

it. He started last July after a difficult recovery from his knee surgery. He has been on a prolonged weaning dose and now (recently) is off. My vet did do blood work fairly frequently to ensure his liver was o.k. I thought long and hard about it when vet wanted to put him on it. I researched and had total trust in my vet`s judgment and it worked out fine.

Just make sure you know the side effects...

and watch for them. Most dogs can use rimadyl just fine but I've had two that couldn't. Oscar started vomiting right away, so we had to change him to another drug and Chester had a fly biting episode, which he'd never had before, so we stopped him right away also. He's never done it again, so even though my vet is skeptical, I won't use it for him again. Oreo did just fine when she was on it. Hope everything goes well.

Yes, Etogesic is what they switched Oscar to...

couldn't remember the name of it, just that it started with an e.

Thanks, I will ask him about this one.

I heard Rimadyl was hard on the liver, wasn't sure if that was in long term testing or short term. I will see what vet says about the other though:-)

Thanks!

Rimadyl

Hard on liver but probably not a problem for short term. I prefer etogesic--less hard on liver and is a good pain killer. Also cheaper. You might ask the vet about it
