Raw diets and fish

Brandon asked if I feed fish, and the answer to that is no not yet.

So for the raw feeders, do you feed fish?

What kind?

How do you give it to your dogs? Audrey is missing 8 teeth so she truly doesn't chew well. WIll fish be a problem for her?

Is there anything we need to keep in mind when feeding fish, for example Judy pointed out that liver is very rich and can cause pancreatitis, is there any similar concern with fish we should be aware of?

I feed raw fish

Just to supplement Q's dinner kibble.  He's allergic to most meat proteins, but is OK (knock on wood) with fish.  I buy the large bags of frozen filets to give him. Usually it's tilapia or flounder (though I've also fed catfish).  I nuke it so it's not frozen solid (20-30"), slice it thin, and toss it in with his kibble.

Bill (Lily, Chunk, and Sue) feeds his dogs fish that he catches.  I think he gives them the whole fish.  Drop him a line and ask. :)

i know a shepard breeder who feeds fresh trout that i would not do as fish have worms...you should always freeze for 24 hrs

Types of Fish

I did a search on the Raw Feeding group on Yahoo! a few weeks back and below are a few types of fish that I noticed were mentioned several times.  I'm guessing these types of fish are more commonly fed due to price.  An Asian market near my house has fresh mackerel for $1.99/lb.  It would be interesting to know which fish should be avoided due to high mercury content or any other reason.

Sardines
Anchovies
Mackerel
Smelt
