Puppy throwing up mucus

I emailed my vet telling him that my pup has been throwing up mucus and sneezing with snot in his nose. He couldn't get me in til Tuesday and I am highly concerned. Money is extremely tight and he's been playing, eating, and drinking normal, so I figured going to the emergency isn't to practical for me. But when he wakes up from a nap he starts to heave and then throws up. Has anyone had any experienced with this kind of situation? Please reply.

He has a cold

or perhaps bronchitis but like people is probably a virus. You can treat his cold the same as you would treat yours. Elaine's suggestions were all good. You can give him cold med to decrease mucous (can't think fo name but commercial has these green mucous blobs that the med destroys.) I give 1/2 the adult dose or if there is a dose for children I give that. You can also give children's robitussin. As long as no fever and he is eating and drinking I don't go to vet. If it is a virus he shouldn't be given an antibiotic--they don't work on virus and overuse of antibiotics are producing super-bugs. Treat the symptoms and as long as he seems to improve and not worsen I would skip the vet and save my money.

probably has URI (upper respiratory infection)

and will need lots of nursing as well as vet exam and medication. You hope it hasn't gone into his lungs but if he's still active and eating that's good. Keep him warm (not hot) and out of drafts, use a humidifier or vaporizer nightly if you have one, with moisture added to the room but not directly aimed at him. Wipe away mucous and if he vomits, feed smaller more frequent meals (3 or 4 daily). Do you have a rectal thermometer or digital one that you can check his temperature with? Not every URI will show fever but you don't want his to go above 103 degrees and if it higher, come back here and we'll try to help with suggestions on how to bring the fever down.
