PUPPY FOOD for how long

It seems there are varying opinions among breeders and bulldog owners as to how long a bulldog puppy should be kept on a good quality puppy food (Pro Plan Chicken & Rice Puppy) before transitioning to adult food. I am using Taste of The Wild-Pacific Salmon for my adults. The TOTW food claims to be an all age food and has puppy feeding directions.

I am not sure of the reasons show breeders like to move away from puppy food as early as 8-10 weeks. Understanding would surely help to make the decision which is better for our dogs.

Most people I know also say 6 months. My first 2 pups I did that.

and may girl I have now has eaten Natural Balance Venison & Sweet Potato pretty much since she was born since it's an all stage food.

Re: PUPPY FOOD for how long

We have our pup on Medi Cal development formula and our vet recommended switching to the adolescent formula at 4 mos.

Apparently it is designed for larger breed dogs to help reduce diet induced bone problems and obesity.

Seems to make sense for bull dogs. Thoughts?

Lots say at

around 6mths old to change over to Adult food. I asked my vet this and his suggested around 8-9 mths old or her first heat cycle or I could do an all age food like your talking about. so at 6mths I changed from Natural Receipe puppy formula to the easy digestion formula for all ages My main reason in doing this is that the puppy formula only came in 5 pound bags so I was having to buy a new bag every few days between our bully and my yorkie choosing this over her previous dog food haha. Hope this helps! good luck!

My guys have been on an all stage diet,

Since I got them, ach of them varied in age, 8 weeks to 14 weeks old.
They are on a special diet though, my vet told me that 4 months is a good age to switch bullies, to prevent the bones from growing to fast, I was told this would have helped my doberman also, she got elbow displasia at 9 months old.

Medi Cal

Medi Cal is in Canada. I think it is Royal Canin in the States. Hopefully the adolescent formula is available in the States too.
