X-pen and crate is a good option and kinder to the puppy if its an extended period but they seem to train faster if you can get the in the routine of going outside. Neighbors or kids after school are good options.... Our local Senior Center had several volunteers in our neighborhood that were tickled to pottie our girls when they were little.... Nana has a brag book with their pictures to show at the center and still stops to see her girls. They also make great baby sitters if you need to be out of town

I think the crate and xpen is a good option, because you can not leave that little guy in a crate all day. The best option would be to have someone come let the pup out for the first few months during the day. that would also advance the potty training for you. Pups are a lot of work!! Get ready.

in the laundry room and used a gate to block entry into the rest of the house. My sister lives across the street from us and checked on our puppy a couple of times a day. We have a Boxer (Maggie) and she actually trained Punkie B for us. Punkie followed Maggie everywhere when she was a baby. Maggie really helped us train our baby...she NEVER has any accidents in the house...Maggie did a good job!

When I had a pup and couldn't be home with them, I had them in a crated area with an ex-pen surrounding it so they could move and play. I bought a piece of left over linoleum flooring from a flooring shop and put down then the crate and ex-pen. You can paper train this way too. It works for me.

they have them with dividers, so you can gradually make the crate bigger as they get bigger....when he hit 1 year, we started to leave him out, by 15 mths or so, he had free range of the house....NOW...he's locked back in jail, b/c he has started digging in my couch to make him a place to sleep!

Re: We crated Boss
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your couch. How will you break him of that habit?
Thank you again about your response
