They are always infected, but I have never seen him having pain, tonight he is dragging his bum, and running and sitting, running and siting. Gave him a bath to help sooth it, no help. Of course he couldn't do this todya, when my vets were there. I tired to express the glands, and he cried, what do I do until Monday? I don't want to take him to the er. 9unless I have to)
Try...
warm compresses to the area three - four times day for 15 minutes. Hopefully that will help relieve some of his discomfort....poor thing.
just talked to the er, gonna do a heating pad right now.

careful....
with a heating pad....as sometimes they may get to hot....in a sensitive area.
But warm compresses are even better d/t moist heat.
Prep h suppositories
I have given them to Morgan before for her anal gland issues.
Did you use them because they were swollen and infected?
Can you tell me what to do Thanks.
Yes, they were swollen and itchy
But not infected. The prep h soothed her and helped with the swelling and irritation.
