Please help guys.. (pic's, graphic)

So dozer's been on Tresaderm for almost 3 weeks now and his Hemocytoma on his leg is not getting better. It hasn't shrunk and on top of that he's been chewing on it and now it looks like this..

I have booked an appointment with our Bullie vet for next tues cuz he's on vacation this week. Originally we took him to a local vet closer to our house when this first appeared and they said they wouldn't recommend surgery to remove it because of its location so they gave us the topical meds and said it should go away in a month or so. Its been almost 5 weeks and it looks worse. I have a collar on him now to prevent him from licking or chewing on it anymore and im still applying the tresaderm. But what should i do in the meantime til his vet appt?

Might go away if you wait long enuf

I've had a bunch of these. One on mid back of a dog I was showing I had removed when it got about this size. Even so, it was about a 3" long scar (along the hairline so it didn't show).

Another was in the copious skin under a pet quality girl. There was no hurry because there was plenty of skin to do the surgery if it kept growing, and no cosmetic issues, so we waited. Took months & months, but it eventually pinched off at the base, died, scabbed and dropped off leaving no scar at all. In the interim I used Pellitol - a good old fashioned topical - to avoid secondary infection.

I believe they will all eventually die and fall off, the question is how big, secondary problems, and can you stand it.

From the picture, it looks too big already to be an easy surgical removal; there's not enuf skin.

He may have introduced...

Another bacterium when he was getting at it. I'm not sure what type of antibiotic is in tresederm, but topical can only go so far. I know when Kano had a lick granuloma, I had her on oral as well as topical antibiotics. And, I did her wound care twice a day.
From what I've read, hemocytomas can take months to resolve. Sorry he (and you!) is having to deal with this. sad.gif

No experience with this...

But, it does look kinda yucky. I agree with Elaine - a broad spectrum like keflex may be indicated. In the meantime, the cone is an excellent idea (don't want further contamination and irritation). Also, I would wash with an antibacterial soap (like dial) twice a day before applying the tresederm to help with drying and infection.
Good luck - poor guy!

Roxy has one on her nose rope..

The vet said to give it 2 months. If it doesn't go away she will cut it off. I don't see much change, so it looks like surgery for Roxy.

Bentley had on and it did just go away.

Yeah,

It was looking so good, and then one day while i was at work i guess it was bothering him and he started licking, and now here we are. I came home and it had bled all over his bed and room he stays in while we work. And now its all infected looking i'm just worried.

Ouch!

E-Collar is good idea. Looks like it got out of control from him licking it. Onslow's shrunk.............

Maybe Sue/Bear will come on, she had the same problem.

Best wishes for your boy.

time to remove the darn thing!

looks like he has caused it to become infected. Being that he is chewing at it I would now have it removed.
Not sure why they felt the location was an issues.
They will have to sedate him, but not for very long and then cut it out (some are deeply rooted- but they dont know until they get in) and then a few stiches and its gone.
Have had rescues with a few of them now. I always have them removed and and have had no problems.

antibiotics

I agree--Keflex. You can buy it online as FishFlex Forte (exactly the same stuff as the "People" med) from RevivalAnimalHealth. I always keep some on hand. Also, have you tried spraying it with Bitter Apple to stop the licking?
