Pet Tabs Plus

I'm giving my 4 month EB 1 Pet tab plus everyday cause he has a couple little bald spots that appeared the day after he got his last puppy shots.
I wondered if I should discontinue giving him the tums for his tear stains while I use the PT+? I'm feeding TOTW High Prairie.

Thanks

I would bet it Localized Demodex

Thank you. We're going to the vet this afternoon to have him scraped. No need for the scraping according to the breeder, just start treatment, but I want instruction on his treatment, not hit or miss, meaning the breeder knows all this stuff, but the skills to explain it to me he lacks. As far as dosage, with his method. Thanks to everyone on the board.

And the reason it showed up after the shots is because the immune system became compromised after the vaccination ...causing the outbreak of increased mites . My breeder informed me of this and she recommends starting Promeris . You can also add Ivomectin if you dont see any results after giving the Promeris ( which is a topical spot treatment for fleas and ticks but is now labeled to treat demodex ). Hope this helps !

You're right it's demo. I saw them in the microscope, He gave me Ivomectin oral. He said the PT+ were ok for him too. I'm thinking of adding vitamin E, any other suggestions?
I am just guessing, but it seems the little bald spots are at the sites of his injections and chip. Could be wrong as I don't have an exact map of his injection sites.

Thanks again

I understand about the Rabies vaccination...

Unless you can honestly say your dog has a health problem that would prevent him from having the shot as legally required, you are taking a risk by not having it done. If, for instance, the dog was diagnosed with Mange, a medical case can be made for waiting so as not to aggrivate the condition while its under treatment, but I have always followed the law regarding rabies vaccinations and licensing too, and I feel better for having done this. Working in a vets office as I have, also exposes one to animal bites and I would not want to have to take the shots if the biter was not vaccinated as required...rabies is something that you can't fool around with, in terms of exposure. PS>a dog not properly vaccinated for Distemper can also cause a serious health risk to the technician in terms of bite-exposure. happy.gif

pet tab plus

I think you are right. I'll ask the vet tomorrow. I think they say under 20 lbs, 1/2 tab, 20 lbs+ 1 tab. But I'll ask.
Thanks

No I haven't had him scraped yet. I'm thinking tomorrow morning. We looked at a place on his stomach when he was at the vet, but the bald spots showed after his shots. I would like to have waited for his rabies, but the law in Indiana says 3 months, and if your dog should bite a kid let's say, he'd go to impound, for I think 10 days of 2 weeks, at your expense. It's hard to know what is the right thing to do as far as shots.

You might want to have the spots checked out by the vet...

especially if they showed up after his shots. It could be demodex, he's at the right age for it. They can tell if it is by a simple skin scraping. Did he get his rabies shot? I usually hold off on that one until about 8 months. Demodex is easily cured, but it needs medication.
