Good Morning, I am thinking about getting pet insurance on my bullie and I am wondering who else has this? Most people I know with bulldogs do not have insurance to my understanding.
If anyone is Canada has pet insurance at a good rate, please let me know. The ones I am finding are costing an arm and a leg.
Thanks
have a super day
one thing to consider though
Most pet insurances have stipulations on breed specific surgeries that they do not cover-- ie cherry eye, elongated palate, entropian etc
THIS PLAN will cover those things, unlike most..if yuor dealing with a young pup this is definilty worth getting IMO.
I only wish it was available when i first started..
cherry eye surgery- was 600, plus 300 more that 900- well could have paid thier dedictaible and saved alot of money- vacciantions..thats another 150 at my vet, palate surgery is another 600..so all this can happen and you have already paid out alot...
or put that 89 dollars in a savings account each month and create your pet savings plan to tap into..thats what we now do.

Trupanion
I actually don't have insurance on my Bullies--I have too many to be practical. Lucky mine seem to be very healthy. I do have insurance on our little Shih Tzu as I know very little about the breed. He was an impulse buy (with no regrets). When I sell a pup, however, I do recommend insurance--at least for a couple of years. By that time you know if you have a healthy pup or one that is going to have a lot of vet bills. I have found Trupanion to be really good and they don't refuse paymentfor as many "congenitals" like VPI.

Just for clarification, it is now called 24PetWatch....
sorry if that was confusing.

We have PetCare Insurance...which I think is is like 24PetWatch.
They switched names, it is not something like 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. We paid for the entire year and it was about $650, which is about $55 a month. They have quite a few plans and we have the QuickCare Gold 90%, which means we get reimbursed 90% of the cost. All the plans have different monthly costs but they are really good about covering the bulldog "issues" as long as it isn't pre-existing. Let me know if you have any questions. I can't tell you if they are worth it or not because we haven't had to use it (don't get me wrong, that is a GOOD thing). Also, they don't cover the normal routine vet stuff like shots, neuter/spay and our deductible is $100.

I have Securican
It used to be called Pet Plan. I am in Toronto. Having insurance has allowed my boy to have a happy healthy life. I have used it many times, they cover everything.

Also, you might consider your previous pet visits
I looked into this, and was surprised by how little was covered (at least in my case). All the places I looked at covered hereditary conditions, however any little note your vet made can and seems to be used to get out of things.
For instance, my bully jumped off the couch and limped around. I took her to the vet and had her checked. The vet thought her knee seemed possibly a little loose, but couldn't tell and recommended possibly see a ortho if I was concerned. I took her to a orthopedic surgeon and they said it was great, no issues etc.. However, since I didn't pay for a formal x-ray etc. the insurance providers said crucial ligaments would not be covered.
Another example, my vet during one of our standard visits made a note that my dog's gait seemed a little loose and would want to keep our eyes on it as she grows - keep in mind she was only 3 months at this point. This was translated by the insurance company as a diagnosis of possible hip dysplasia and that too would be not covered etc.
After it was all done I didn't see enough value. These items I mention would be covered if there was no claims tied to those conditions after a full year of coverage. Instead I simply put away 150 a month to a separate ING savings account that I'll use if/when things come up.
Hopefully you have better luck then me - I think the earlier you do it, the better since you will not run into many of the issues I did looking to add it 6 months into my bully.

I am in Toronto,
I had insurance with Vetinsurance, it was really reasonable, they didn't make you pay extra for a bulldog. Then it doubled in price, they saud it was because of me being in Toronto, thought I had the insurance for over a year before it went up. I cancelled it, I checked it out this week and did a quote online, now it starts at $75 a month for a Bulldog, when I got Pugsley's 2 years ago, it was $30 a month. These places are crazy. I say just find a vet that will take a payment plan..lol. Also for emergencies I have a pet medic card, it is supplied by Medicard, it is a credit card that can only be used at a vet office.
