Pet Insurance

We're thinking on getting some. Anyone have any suggestions/personal experience/issues with any particular company? Any issues during/after a medical emergency or accident?

Sorry is this is the wrong board for this topic...couldn't decide.

Thx.

Great info, everyone...

...based on your thoughts and the research we've don on the net, we've figured out how much our premium would be to get the coverage we would be comfortable with. And we've decided to open a "Roxy" account and deposit that premium amount every month. That way it'll be there if needed, and still ours if not used.

Thanks again!

Cheers.

I am with Securican (Pet Plan)

and I must say am very happy to have it BUT I have used it a whole lot and they have twice lowered my coverage to 50% from 80% (high claims) I don`t think they will raise it up anytime soon. My premiums are around $100.00/mo. for the unlimited coverage. It has paid off for me (not them) and I am not their favourite client.

I'm with PetSecure

I registered Stella for Pet Plan (the name at the time) the day I got her. It was the best decision I ever made! I highly recommend the insurance - there's nothing like going in knowing that you don't have to worry about money for your baby's care. I've never had any problem with them in terms of claims - and believe me, I've made ALOT!

If you do end up going with them, could you put me down as your referral? I think I get some sort of reward for bringing in a new client.

http://www.petsecure.com/

P.S. They are out of Winnipeg.

We are very happy

with Trupanion. There are no heriditary or congenital clauses, plus for an extra $5.50 I took out a hip dsplysia rider. This has payed off big time, since 4 months ago, my pup was limping. To make a long story short, we had her hips xrayed by both our vet and a board certified Orthopedist. She has hip dspysia. Trupanion refunded us 90% of our bills very quickly, and I did not do any paperwork. My vet did it all.She is on monthly Adequan shots which the insurance pays 90% too. In the future 5-6 years she may need a hip replacement, that too woll be covered. So for $51/ month I think its worth it.

Pet Insurance

Hi Dave, my two cents worth on pet insurance: We had VPI for Maude for her first two years and then canceled it. VPI does not cover "breed-related conditions" like cherry eye. (There are other specific bulldog conditions which are not covered but I can't remember what they are right now.) Also, their reimbursement amounts were not good.

Others on the board have expressed similar feelings about VPI. Other people have had good experiences with different insurance companies. In my opinion, you would be better off saving a certain amount every month in an account for Roxy's vet visits. You should post this on the general message board since it gets more attention than this one.

Hi Miranda...

...thx for the post, I will definitely look further into vetinsurance.com

I will also check out the SPCA program...thought I had seen them come up when I searched.

Thx again, and hugs to all your babies from us!

check this out...link included

http://www.petcareinsurance.com/can/dog-insurance.asp

This is what I just signed Mason up for. If he has nothing pre-exisiting he is covered for everything for like 70 dollars a month. Even vacs and teeth!! if you pick the master care plan, which I did thanks to the cash I shelled out for eye surgery..Lesson learned for me!

Thanks for the info...

...I am in Canada but one of the ones available here that I have looked at briefly is VPI.

It does appear that you need to be very careful about what is automatically ruled out. I found another company that automatically rules out hip dysplasia.

I will post this on the other board.

Thx again.

the big problem with any of the insurance.....

is that you still have to pay up front...fill out a bunch of forms and then wait a couple of months before you get your money....so since you have to come up with the money first whats the point..... i need help then not 3 months latter....
but their are good ones the akc is pretty good....they cover alot....just read them really carefully....
what i do is every time i go to the vet i leave a extra hundred bucks,,,,or a min of 50$ this way they trust me...and i have a little ahead....
if i have to go some where else for an emergency i can get my extra from them.... so just look up a bunch of different ones and asked alot of question.....
