Hi folks, this website has helped me so much over the years, that I wanted to see if any of you had anything happen like this. My pekingnese Jonah is 6 years old He has had several "spells" of abnomal spasms and crys in pain. We took him the the ER vet last night and they said he may have a herniated disc, the xrays didn't show much. He had a very bad spell this morning, panting, crying loudly. Can a back problem cause this. This happened after coming in from outside from pooping, which I am sure hurt him. I haven't gone through this with my bulldog, but I know you guys are knowledgeable and somebody may help me ease my mind. i will have him at his regular vet when they open in the a.m.. for sure but until then, any help? They gave him muscle relaxer and pain pills, but I sure hate to keep him doped up on all that....
It could be his back
I would be givivg him the muscle relaxers and pain meds.

Agree...keep him as comfortable as possible now...
and perhaps your vet can refer you to someone who does acupuncture to relieve some back pain...would be worth a try. You may also have to begin using a "stool softener" if he is straining to poop. Talk with your vet...there are some made for children's use that may be suitable for him, depending on his weight.
