Any suggestions?? My dog "Wilma" has been very sluggish for about 2 months and I don't know what could be wrong. It started around the time she got a urinary tract infection for which she was put on antibiotics. Right after this she had a problem with one of her hind legs where she couldn't walk. We took her to an orthopedist who, after a series of xrays could't find anything. He figured it must have been a pulled muscle and put her on an anti-inflamatory. She has now been off both medications for a few weeks and just sleeps most of the day, not wanting to play, eat, etc...
Aha...hypothyroid can contribute to low energy
if the medication she is on is not meeting her needs. When was she last checked for dose? Usually sprained muscles take 3-4 weeks to improve, some less and of course some more.

Re: Sounds like she's not fully recovered.
We did have her checked and she was cleared. Her BMs have been OK, but she has never been a big drinker. For a while she had a limp when she first got up, but this seems to be ok now. How long soes it take to recover from a pulled muscle? Additionally, is something like arthritis a possibility? She is 3 years old. Also, I should mention that she has a thyroid problem, for which she is on medication.

Sounds like she's not fully recovered.
When she finished her a/b's from the UTI, did you get her urine checked one more time to be sure it was 'clear'? How is her appetite, her BM's and her water intake?
Sometimes in the warm weather, when a dog isn't feeling 100% and is sleeping more, they don't drink as much as they should. This can lead to minor dehydration, slower digestion of the food and resulting slower BM's...an overall feeling of sluggishness. If you are fairly certain there is no active infection ongoing, I would start with getting her to take in a bite more liquid, either by encouraging her with ice cubes in her water dish (works well for some)or soaking her food, giving some liquid treats (popscicles made from frozen lo-fat boullion) or even putting out some pedialyte as a beverage once a day.
