Okay all you experts...

Why does Roxy have such terrible stinky rotten smelling gas? She is eating the same food as Bentley (Nature's Variety Prairie Lamb and Oatmeal) and he has no gas. Her toots, which are plentiful, smell like rotting vegetables. She can stink up a whole room! (Not that I mind, but I worry about what is making it so foul smelling.)

Should I add probiotics or yogurt? Her stools are perfect. Her breath stinks too. She's nine and we do argue over fur removal from her gums, so that is probably the stinky breath problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you want the long version??

With our 1st Bully (Lucy) we started with what the breeder was using. Authority for puppies. As she matured she had shin issues and staining of the eyes. We then tried Iams, Eukanuba and Blue buffalo. Different flavors of each because we found some were more rich and caused VERY loose stools. Bear in mind this was done over a period of nine months and we went through some VERY frustrating moments. We've had good luck with anything with sweet potatoes. (I think it has some of the same properties as Pumpkin) We ended up with Taste of the Wild for her and have no staining, good stools and very few skin issues. (I think what she does have is seasonal outdoor allergies). The Puppy(Maggie) started out on Natural Balance and was switched to Taste of the wild to see if it would help with her staining.... no luck. She is on the Blue Buffalo sweet potato and has a gorgeous coat, great stools and no skin issues. It's a trial and error thing with each dog I think. I do believe that it is tied to the dogs lines (genetics) because I see puppies from one dog/bitch doing better on certain kibble and responding poorly to others.... Just my thoughts! Hope it helps.

kefir grains

My new frenchie Baloo has horrible gas, you would run out of the room. I have been giving him about 2-3 kefir grains that I make my kefir milk from and it has helped alot. I think it has something to do with his digestion and the kefir grains help him digest his food better. Also the kefir milk is good for humans too, it helps your digestive systems and those who has been on long term antibiotics to balance out the good and bad bacteria in the guts and it makes your face soft and smooth.

Oh gosh:-) Poor girl!!

I use yogurt quite religiously (sorry for the expression). Sophie gets pretty aromatic if I don't use it regularly. I put one table spoon of plain, fat free yogurt in each meal (I feed twice daily). Sophie and Isabella are gas free unless I run out....then I RUN out!!

I often wonder if what is good food for one maybe

not so good for another. We have our older girl on one food and finally found a food that agrees with the younger one. It's a pain to feed 2 separate kibbles but now they both have good coats, no tear stains and no gas except for the occasional toot on a trip. Maggie gets a little excited in the Blazer but thank goodness there are small electric windows in the way back happy.gif I would try changing her food till you find one that works for her tummy.

If gas is the worst of her problems, I can live with it..

honestly, it doesn't bother me half as much as it does my husband and Courtney. But then I adore Roxy. She can do no wrong in my eyes and the feeling is mutual.

I would think that the gulpers

would be worse. Chewing would help with digestion. BeetleJuice inhales her food. I don't have an answer but I feel your pain.

do you think it's the way they swallow their food?

Honestly, Junior is my gulper. Roxy eats very slow like a dainty little princess and then.... well... the gas comes out not so dainty!

BeetleJuice is the same was

horrible, just horrible. I can't blame it on anything age related, because she has been this way since we got her 5 years ago. I don't give her anything but her food, I'm afraid it will upset her digestion and make her gas even worse. She got 1/2 of a fig newton once, damn near killed all of us.

Good luck, with BeetleJuice, its just one of her very charming attributes.
