obsessed pup

My 1 year old pup is obsessed with everything to the point that she's exhausted first it was her jolly ball that I ended up taking away from her and now she does laps around our yard which is surrounded by woods everytime she goes out and usually the whole time until I make her come in! Any ideas on how to stop this? I have a big outside pen but really don't want to have to put her in it. Thanks Cheryl

my boy has always been wild

he wants to chase fast cars, motorcycles, outdoor cats and squirrels. He actually loses his brain, making those funny bulldog noises that make everyone look. If he was off leash he would run up to a motorcycle and get killed. He has a very good recall on a long line but I never let him off, just in case he sees something. I can say though, he has always been very active and I think he is generally slowing down a bit other than these situations. He is almost 5.

Sounds like my house X 3 or 4 ;)

I have 3 or 4 that have to go running every morning and every night. We have a kawasaki Mule that I ride and they run either in front or behind. They go wide open for about 10-15 minutes each time. I also agree a tired dog is a good dog. Mine behave so much better once I let them get all that out.

Angel has a very high prey drive....

I don't have a fenced yard so I walk her on a leash. She's just IMPOSSIBLE when it's windy. She has to chase every leaf that blows by, any bug that flies by...anything! If our cat is in the yard it's again impossible to control her. She won't even potty because she's so fixated on everything else.

She's 8 months old & just a ball of energy a lot of the time. She's either going full throttle or dead to the world.

Toy in mouth

to chase. That's what Onslow does! He gets dogs to play at the park that the owners say, "just don't play". =) Not when Onslow's around. They all play. lol

Re: I think we have the same dog:-) LOL! Isabella is non-stop

It's nice to know she's not the only spas out there I was really beginning to wonder! I don't think she thinks she a bulldog my husband says she'd make a good coon hound! Life is not boring with her around at all, I have to crate her in here to calm her and give the other ones a break because she runs with toys in her mouth to get them to chase her.

Sometimes:-) If she and our other pup start playing, I have to physically take Isabella into another room or she will play until she is too over heated and will drop over!!

charlie is 7 months and he is a terror...runs 90 miles an hr thru my ferns knocks down all my bushes....does at least three laps around the kitchen and out doors....he is happy he is healthy...now wilson has never been like this he does not run...he gets the zoomies once in a while and that is funny to see....he would no more run around than put a stick in his mouth.....let your baby have fun...dogs are not stupid....most over heating or heat exhaustion is the owners fault not the dog....dogs will stop if exhausted and cant breath,,,,,

Re: She sounds normal to me

she gets plenty of exercise she never stops- chasing anything that moves outside mainly the chipmunks that's what had started the whole marathon she does, the other 3 just lay and look at her like she's nuts. Glad to hear you think she's normal I'll quit looking for valium! HA HA !!

She sounds normal to me

Puppies have lots of energy, some more than others. Mine has always been full of energy too.

Why, are you afraid of her overheating? How much exercise does she get normally?

My theory is a tired dog is a good dog, I like to let mine wear himself out (without him overheating).

Maybe you could consider getting her into a class, rally, agility? It would probably be great for both of you. =)
