Need some input on Naruto's issue

Hi there everyone, I wanted to see if anyone has experienced this before. Naruto is 1 yr old and as many of you know we had rescued him, here's the issue that im having with him.

At nights I usually put them in their Kennels at around 9 and porky sleeps all thru the night and i let them both out at 6:00 in the AM, well Naruto has been peeing in his kennel its been about 4 times that I have let him out in the morning to find him laying in a huge puddle of pee. maybe is because I couldnt hear him so now i have been paying more attention at night and have noticed that he cannot hold his pee thru the night he usually starts scratching at around 1 in the AM so I have been getting up to let him out. about a month ago I had the vet check his urine for any infections and it all cameback clean so I have set up an appt to draw blood and ck his kidneys and liver function, this is getting to be a problem becuase he smells so bad and I have to bathe him at least once a week.

any guidance regarding this would be appreciated.

Comments re vet selection...

Hey, if you found a good vet office with attentive care, where they seem thorough, the prices are in line with what other offices charge, they don't push you to buy items you weren't expecting or prepared to use, they stay with this office.

Obviously we like "bulldog experienced vets" because there are several items that other docs sometimes get very wrong, such as proper weight, breathing evaluations, anesthesia concerns...but much of what we use our office visits for are fairly routing things like intestinal upset/diarrhea, nasal congestion/URI, or urination problems/UTI and these are not unique to our breed. If you have concerns about recommended surgeries or extended testing, ask around HERE and see what others have to say...many times we've been thru that same problem and have come out the other end 'wiser' and 'cheaper'. Update from Vet's visit

we dropped off naruto this morning for another check up, they drew blood we will have those results tomorrow, The veridict so far is

Really bad UTI
Skin Allergies

he is in 3 different meds so hopefully he will get better soon, poor little guy we feel so bad for him sad.gif . Hope that tomorrow blood work comesback ok. we had him tested for an UTI last month at our regular Vet and they didnt find anything so im a little upset about that because I mentioned the fact that his pee smelled really bad and they sadi he was fine, so Im going to start looking for another vet as this vet that we took him in today does not specialize in bullies, we took him there becasue afamily member works ther and she made sure they ran all the tests.

Ill keep you all updated.

Thanks

Re: What kind of bedding does he have?

At this point he doesnt have any type of bedding, we went thru 2 pillows in 2 weeks they were just soaked with pee so I just took them out and figured that might solve the problem but it didnt.

If the urine shows some type of UTI and

one round of antibiotics doesn't entirely clear it up/stop the frequent urination, then an ultrasound may be the next step to check for bladder stone(s) or kidney stone(s).

I, too, would recommend you take away the water 30mins after last meal (6pm?). That would have given him enough time to drink and have the food "soften" in his belly for easier digestion...and taking him out to pee before bedtime (10pm??)

What kind of bedding does he have?

I can't use anything too soft like pillows for Howie because he'll pee on them no problem. Maybe if Naruto's bedding is like a pillow, maybe the pee is being absorbed & that's why he doesn't mind it too much?? Otherwise, I would say keep listening for him in the middle of the night & I would guess in time he will out grow it.

We're lucky because DH comes home from work around 230am & let's the dogs out if they need to (aka wake up), but now it's just Vivi (the youngest) who still gets up.

Good luck!

If this is something new and really out of the

ordinary for him I would definitely visit the vet... if all is well then as Amanda said start limiting his water and see if it helps :O)

Try the classics

Try the classics of limiting water after a certain time at night. I would also try maybe letting them out twice before you go to bed about 30 minutes apart. With Tessie, she always pees when we go outside whether its a little bit or a lot, if you take them out twice than you can ensure he emptied is bladder really good. I know it produces a habit but when Tessie had to use the restroom at night, I got up to take her out. She eventually learned that she could sleep through the night without having to go.
