need help please... 2 day old puppies
Submitted by cshedore on April 21, 2010 - 12:10ama coown of mine just had pups 2 days ago. i have 2 of the pups here as they called me to tell me they werent doing well, gasping, blue in color, not nursing. she said one had vomited milk and she had sucked it out. it now has blood coming out of its nose and throat when suctioned... i cant hardly seem to get them warm he is finally taking shallow breaths... any ideas? i have them on Oxygen....

the remaining 3 littermates are
on their way to the vet along with momma to be checked out. they seem ok so far... prayers please.....
a fellow bulldogger thought it may be related to aspirating minute amount feces at birth which caused an infection? she says it typically shows up abput 3 days after birth and they will not run a temp prior.... she is a former neonatal nurse and says they see the same in human newborns

yes dam not......
with pups between feedings.She cleans them well and is very careful when they are out.She lays so all teets are exsposed and even quivers to stay up while they feed.

blood out of nose and throat
is not a good sign. Sounds like they are going to loose them. Maybe fading puppy and hard to save. Seek a vet.

Heating pads in whelping box with light blanket.We've put thermometer in box to cxheck that.The one has been eating very well but little brother has been difficult even with Karo.I feeling like we are Chris with all our questions and this is just adding to her stress.She has her own new babies and ours and us are dropping the ball on it.I thank Chris for all her help and time.We hate the fact we are putting such a burden on her.THANK YOU CHRIS

sounds like they are fading
Five some karo in your finger. Ric them like you would when they are born. If they are not sucking you need to tube the puppies. You have to keep them warm or they will not live and they will not digest the food

We have been very careful that thier mom or nobody has stepped on or dropped them. We trust Chris's advice and knowledge whole heartadly. These are babies and we treat them as such.We don't know what we would do without Chris's help even though we spents days reading on the internet before even thinking about breading, She knows her stuff.Could a new container and heating pad let out fumes that we can"t smell but effect thier fragile lungs and they can't handle it?I am stabbing at the wind but these are our babies and we don't want to take a chance of screwing it up. Gimpy

i do too.......
their color is getting better but still breathing hard. atleast the one that had the blood is breathing at all. he wasnt for a while there. i wonder if he was stepped on or dropped or something!!!!!!

i want to thank everyone for all of their help tonight...
but i have lost both of them. they both ended up with blood out of the nose and throat........ i have never had anything like this. i got them so that their color was better and breathing better and then one started screaming and then went limp and about 5 hours later the other did the same thing.......
what does this sound like?
