need advise please

We have decided after long thought to breed our female. We chose a male that belongs to a friend of ours. Both are very healthy with no health problems or skin problems. My questions are I use the Nu Vet vitamins are these good enough for my female while she is pregnant or do I need to give her something else, also I feed her of course adult food, do I need to change her to puppy food and what kind do you recomend?

Thanks for all your help!

Michelle

I would trust Sue's recommendations

and I haven't bred in many years. There are a few things I would caution you about however and one is that you need to watch salt intake. If you only feed dogfood you should be fine, but if you add any human 'snacks' be aware of salt! Some think that you need to add things like cottage cheese to the very-pregnant bitch before she delivers to be sure you're building up her calcium...not true. The time to add lo-salt cottage cheese, if you want to at all, is after nursing has begun. Also remember that in those last couple weeks, if your bitch has a very full belly, she may not be able to hold much food so either free-feed or offer four small meals, and always have water available. happy.gif

This is what I do...

Just before she's due to come into season I start giving her a human prenatal vitamin daily. It has everything she needs including folic acid.

I continue the regular diet until pregnancy is confirmed and then change to puppy food.

Good luck,
Sue
