My Gus

I'm posting a pic of Gus (and Maude because she had to stick her head in the way). Please look at his left upper lip - there is a wart-like growth there. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Except for the growth, Gus is fine. He is eating, drinking, playing and sleeping normally. His energy level is good as always.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you so much!

.

Hmmm, I don't like the look of it...

It could just be something like an ingrown hair. But Stella got a growth on her ear (hers was black through) and it turned out to be a little tumour. It was benign, so no big deal in the end. But we had to have it removed because tumours can "change their spots" and become a bigger problem. I'd have it checked out...

Celine, thanks for the info.

And your story about Stella - I really appreciate it.

monica

it looks a lot like the histiocytoma(sp) mack had in his ear. i had it vet checked, they said it would go away on its own and it did.

Thanks, Caroline

It sure does look like a histiocytoma from the photos I've seen online and Gus fits the age group too.

I'm always concerned with...

mast cell tumors since Ollie had one. His looked like a wart until they did a path on it. I would have it looked at.

Better to be safe then

sorry I agree. Good luck.

Lisa - you're right

Always better to be cautious.

Hugs to the O-Man.

Back at you

it seems like an odd spot for a histio, IMO. Onslow had one on his elbow and topical steroids took care of it. Good luck and keep us posted. (((hugs)))

Kathy, thank you for the info.

I did not know that about your Ollie. He is okay now, right?

Yes he is, thank you for asking, he...

had the 'thing' taken off his neck secondary to having an infected cyst taken off his belly. The vet thought it was a wart and said he would take it off as long as he was under. Well, the ugly one was nothing and the wart was a mast cell tumor. We had to take him back in for a second surgery (which they didn't charge me for, that's why I love my vet), to get clean margins. He's doing good now, no recurrances. He did tell me that mast cells are a lot like human skin cancers and white dogs are more prone to them.

If that's a histiocytoma...

they go away by themselves. Spanky had a really big one (if that's what it is) on his chest and it had to be removed, but my other dogs had them and they went away by themselves. How old is Gus? The histiocytomas usually happen in younger dogs, so if he is older, I would have it checked.

Gus will be 2 in August

Thanks for the info!
