My Dread is sick. What could this be?

He has been up all night coughing and wheezing.  He has started to throw up a little bit...just bile nothing solid.  He started the coughing about a day or so, but it wasn't too bad.  Just something we wanted to keep an eye on.  Just a little weird, but last night it went on all night.  He is still hacking and coughing.  My husband wants to feed him breakfast, but I don't think we should until we can get to the vet.  The vet doesn't open until 9am and it is still only 7 am here.  Any advice???  Any idea what this could be????  My baby is sick.  :-(  I'm soooooo worried.

No advise just saying a prayer for Dread

Please keep us posted after you see the vet.  Glad you are taking him this morning.

Temperature

Does he have a temp?

Has he been around other dogs recently?

He may have picked up an Upper Respiratory infection or Kennel Cough.

There is a newer strain going around that even dogs that have been given Boratella vaccine are getting. Two of my dogs got sick from being at a show in North Carolina in March and then they gave it to all my other dogs that had stayed at home.

Every one of my dogs had been previously vaccinated, but all still had it to a greater or lesser degree. They were snorting, sneezing, coughing, bowing snot, gagging, puking, running a temp and generally feeling like re-fried s**t. They all got a round of Amoxicillin and were better or over it within a week.

The good thing about it though was that when we were at another show in late-April and lots of dogs got sick after being there, mine were already immune to the new strain and didn't get sick.

we just got home form the vet

and the diagnosis is kennel cough.  He must have picked it up last weekend from the boarding facility last weekend.  Vet prescribed meds and said Dread should be on the mend in a few days.  Meanwhile, he is still hacking up all kinds of crap and coughing like crazy.  Poor boy doesn't feel very good.  Thnaks so much for the thoughts.  Bulldoggers are the "bestest" :-)

to help with his coughing

give him a teaspoon of honey.this will..help with his cough and sore throat...and honey will help boost his immunity....i also give a cup of green tea...you could put the honey in with this....

seems like pneumonia

it seems like your baby could have aspirated some food into the lungs. Mine was hacking and coughing all night and there were traces of blood. I took him to the ER the next day, blood works was fine, but the chest xrays shows some fluids in the lung and was given a high dose of antibiotics for 3 weeks. the coughing was gone in a day with the medications and he finished the full course of it. Better get a chest xray done to rule out pneumonia as it can go downhill really fast if not treated with antibiotics.
