more soft poop question

sorry to keep bugging you all about this.

so my 14 week old bully has soft poops..
I had his poop examined at the vets..everything negative.
He was on totw fish one..then switched to totw bison..now I put him on natural balance sweet potatoe venison.. sigh
He has been on that about a day..
How long should it take for the poop to harden up?
what eles can I do?
How long should I give it till he goes back to the vets for more tesing?
He is playing normally, eating normally... acting crazy puppy..just the darn soft poops...

Re: more soft poop question

I disagree....I have been using it to firm up the stools and it works great. Was recommended to me by my bulldog vet. From what he said, it can work either way depending on the need.
I am sure it does not work for every dog, but I know for me, it definitely hardens the stools.

I think you should add a little canned pumpkin...

for more fiber. That should firm it up.

fiber does the opposite to stool. Iron makes it firm.

Had the same

problem with Stella. Only food her poop is good on is totw pacific stream. you have to give a new food a few weeks to see any change. Pick one and stay with it for a while if it is not working after 3-4 weeks try another. It is a pain. A little dab of yougurt may work to help his digestion.

What about some banana, or rice?

It may work. I know some people do not like to give puppies tylosin, but if the stool is really soft, and like that for awhile, then maybe ask your vet for some tylosin. I gave it to my boy when he was 10 weeks old, it will start to firm the stool right away, he will only need a few tablets.

I just found the "right" food for my girls after going through several brands...it is so challenging to find a healthy food that they will eat! Good Luck!

Re: more soft poop question

Canned pumpkin works if your dog is constipated, it does NOT harden stool. If you fed pumpkin it's the reason your dog has loose stool. It takes at least 2 weeks of regular feeding of one particular food for the body to adjust. If the stool is still loose after a few weeks it could be the food, switching every few days would be my 2nd guess as to what is causing it. The second major factor in loose stool is overfeeding. Hope that helps.

Re: more soft poop question

Canned pumpkin works very well for soft stools. You get the regular canned pumpkin, not the spicy one and give a teaspoon in with the food. It adds fiber to the diet and most dogs love it.

well considering he is on his 3rd food

its no wonder his bowels are not regulated. Way too many food changes on such a young pup. It takes any pup a good 2 months to become regulated on solid food and a food change.

Give it time..and stick with one food.

Natural Balance Sweet Potato worked for us!!

My Mack had soft poops for a long time until i switched to NB Sweet Potato and Venison, I LOVE this food!!! Great poops, even when I give treats and healthy scraps! So, stick with it at least a week, good luck!
