Mange or Ringworm

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the two. I think Belle has ringworm. She has developed perfectly round, dry and sometimes slightly scalley places on her. She has lost the hair in those spots too. My other dogs have not been affected.

Same signs

Hi Heather -

I am new to this forum and finding people who have the same symptoms as our bulldog. Currently, Sammy is diagnosed with Seasonal Flank Alopecia where he has lost most or all of the hair on his sides and part of his back. (not the best look happy.gif) It all started about a year ago when we noticed small, round, dry spots that seemed to have a scab in the middle. When the scab fell or scrapped off, the hair came out too. We thought they were bug bites, ring work or hot spots for a long time. Then he was treated for allergies and nothing touched them. The spots eventually "connected" together and just last fall he was diagnosed with the SFA. There is a great explanation link posted from onslowsmom at the top of the forum discussion on SFA.
I am NOT saying that your bully has this, but the beginning signs of our bulldog sounds very familiar to what you describe. Let me know if you have more questions. good luck.

The only way to know is to have a scraping

could be either mange or ringworm or neither. There are several reasons for hair loss.

Blacklight

Darken the room and shine a blacklight over it. It will glow.

Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.
