Well my Lola has had a re-occurring limp for the past 3-4 mths.. It comes and goes but its when she really gets into hyper mood outside and plays with the bigger dogs. I rested her a good bit of time.. not crate but she was reduced activity for 3 weeks and gradually increasd her activity. Well yesterday she was back to full speed. Zoomies..jumping..etc and later that night she started to favor or left rear leg... She layed there and let me pull, push, poke and massage her leg with no isses but would not put alot of weight on it.. its seems to be worse after laying down and this morning she limped for a few mins and then was back to somewhat normal activity..
Is this a sign of artritus or do I need to rest her for 8 weeks.. I know muscle pulls can linger as I have some of my own.. you start to feel better than you push it.. Summer is almost here and I want her to have fun but she is either sleeping on going 100mph.. no inbetween.. any suggestions?
Question on Limping: Do not sedate
My girl is 8 months old and over the past 3 weeks, has been limping for 1-2 minutes after she gets up from her crate after she's rested for a period. We took her twice to the vet and they manipulated both her hind legs, and found nothing. We've rested her, and it just comes back. June 1 we have an appt to have her hips and both knees xrayed, and the xrays will be sent to a orthopedic vet for consult. Problem is vet is insisting that she be under anesthesia w/IV catheter just like she did when we had her spayed. They said in order to position hips and the knees at a certain angle they need her sedated. You all have been so knowledgeable, so I do thank all of you for your advice!

No, Do not
need to sedate for an xray unless she absolutely won't relax and hold still.
An xray won't tell you if there is ligament damage or tear in the knee. An experienced vet/surgeon should be able to tell this by manipulation of the knee.
How old is she?

I set up a appointment for monday at 9am.. Its weird cause after a few mins she will stop limping.. She has never limped for consecutive days.. typically the night after and that morning.. Once she is up and about it goes away.. I sure hope its muscle strain but the doc I am seeing is a orthopedic surgeon also so she is on good hands..

Re: Lola the limping bully
You need an x-ray. My girl had a limp like that and it would go away with rest but at christmas time she was playing with the kids out back after she came in and slept for a while she got up and was limping really bad the vet took x-rays and she had a knee injury. She had surgery in February and is doing great now, get it checked she didn't act like she was in any pain they are just to strong.

x-ray
is in order IMO. Bullies can withstand a lot of pain, so a recurring limp tells you something is not right. I would crate rest too for now.
Best wishes.

chronic
The vet described her as a chronic limper. I crated her for a month during the day and wouldn't let her play. She would be ok but as soon as she was very active she would limp again.

her Bday was MOnday
She just turned two.. Thats good to hear.. The vet comes well recommended. I think its just a pull cause her limping never lasts more than 24 hours and its only happen 3 times in the past 4 mths or so..

same thing happened to Gia
My baby girl had a recurrent limp for a year. I would rest her and she would be fine for a few weeks and then she would start limping again. I had her xrayed and she had ccl ruptures in both rear legs. I had the bilateral TPLO repair done last year and she is having the time of her life on her bionic knees.

Did you get both legs done at the same time?
Our bully needs both knees done too, the specialist says one at a time (is giving discount on the second op). Just curious, our regular vet said it is a matter of opinion. If both could be done at the same time it would seem better as far as recovery time.
I hope my boy does as well as your girl has done.
Thanks.
