Liver Trouble
Submitted by Anonymous on April 20, 2010 - 11:58pmI need some advice. Last night Mauser started throwing up. 7 times in a span of 2 hours. After he was just shaking. I took him to the 24hr vet where they did a full workup on him. All xrays were clear and most bloodwork and vitals were fine. All except the Liver panels. His ALT is 482 and his ALP is 375. Can anyone tell me what this means? They are talking about keeping him and want to do a ultrasound, possible biopsy and more bloodwork. This is not his normal vet and im just overwhelmed knowing what to do. I know vets sometimes want to do alot of unnecessary proceedures. I just want whats best for my boy.

has been on pred for quite awhile. The other day we had an issue with some of the dogs getting into the pred. When I took the older dog in for the bloodwork, the liver enzymes came back slightly high and my vet said this could be from the fact hat she had been on pred for awhile.

Not for months. but he was on a low dose for quite some time before that.

like Deramaxx or Rimadyl? Both of those can affect the liver.
If he can wait until tomorrow you should take him and any test results to your regular vet.
Sounds like the emergency vet is seeing dollar signs and preying on your despiration.
