Ivomectin

Does anyone give this as a heartworm preventative

Good only for Heartworms

Make sure that you also include pyrantel or fenbendazole to kill the intestinal parasites.

Ivomec

It is done every 6 weeks. I'm not sure if it's safe for pregnant dogs and am waiting on my vet to call me back. I will post as soon as I hear it.

Re: Ivermectin

I have been using the cattle/swine injectable (given orally) as a heartworm preventative for years. The local TS carries it but I've found it is even cheaper if gotten via a catalog or online.
The dose I use is 1/10 cc per 11 pounds bodyweight, usually I squirt it onto a big vitamin pill, let it soak in and then hide the pill in peanut butter. The dogs hate the taste of the Ivermectin and spew it everywhere if I just syringe it into their mouths.

Tractor Supply/ Ivomectin

You can buy it at tractor supply and even though it doesn't say for dogs it is used by many breeders. It's the injectible kind, 1% solution. It's probably locked in a case. It's a brown box with a white bull on the front of it.

You give 1/10 of a CC per 10 pounds, but it's not injected, it's just squirted on their food or in some canned food or whatever and let them eat it. I haven't given it to my dogs yet and just wanted other opinions first. I also own Mastiffs so it would be more economical.
Thanks
