Anything that can be done to ease the discomfort? He is on prednisone for the swell/itch, Ceph for the oozing(he rubbed it until it started to bleed and ooze) and malesab pledgets to try to pat with to spot clean. He is taking 3 benedryl every 6 hours. This is going on on his head. Eyes swelled to just about slits. My vet looked at him this morn and said he is going to be a miserable boy for a few days. He is totally miserable and don't want to eat, play etc. He isn't resting well due to being uncomfortable and of course has one of those awful ecollars to keep him from further irritating. Just looking for any suggestions to help soothe it without irritating.

that's alot of pred!!
The swelling is just starting to show some improvement-I can finally see eyes! I'll bump it up to 3 every 8 now that we see some change. He's the most pitiful thing.....I've been placing cold compresses on his face every hour or so....thanks!!

Oops..said Pred but meant Benadryl...

I would imagine that this could be causing some of his restlessness. If some of the swelling has receded, can you spread it out to every 8hrs rather than 6? Antihistamines can cause some of the reverse-symptoms in humans so its reasonable to think same can apply to dogs...I would also do some of the cool compresses for topical relief, and even go so far as ooosely draping a cold wet towel over his body to help "numb" him down a bit. It usually takes 48-72hrs for antibiotics to fully "kick-in" so hope he is much improved tomorrow.
he's pitiful my friend
I would rather take a dozen bee stings myself then see him this way. He won't eat his kibble so of course he's getting the good stuff(chicken, cheeseburger, biljac frozen meatballs)-anything to get him to eat....We can just now see some eyeballs-until now they've just been closed shut and he staggered around with his ecollar. The others keep barking at him because of his new headgear. MJ just wants to play with him and Butt just isn't in the mood. He hasn't laid down all day and was up most the night so I know he is very tired and uncomfortable. He is taking 3 benedryls every 6 hours, prednisone once a day and 750 mg cephalexin 2x a day.....he is oozing pus and has scabs where he has rubbed. At least the ecollar has kept him from irritating it any more....I would much rather be sick myself than something wrong with the babydolls....

Sorry he's still not better
Poor Butkus. I just don't know of anything else that will help besides the cool compresses. Hope he's better soon.

no dex
I asked the vet about giving him a dex shot as that's what my daytime vet gives them for hives and allergic reactions but this vet doesn't like to use dex. The pred he is on is in pill form and takes so much longer to work. I just want him to ease so he can sleep and rest. He flinches everytime I get near his face......

You can try...
Cool compresses. That will also help with the swelling. When Q got hives, I steeped some green tea, cooled it in the frig, and dabbed him all over the hives with a washcloth to help with the swelling and itchiness. He seemed to like it. Good luck!

Our Vet gave a shot
When Morgan was bit on her face and her whole face swelled, our Vet gave her a shot. I assume it was a steroid and before we got back home, her swelling was almost all gone.
