inflamed itchie vagina" CRAZY DOG"

ok for the past few days Sophia has been having a itchie vagina or butt. Well I cleaned the areas well with wipes and today she woke up came out of her crate like a crazy woman. She is huffing, puffing and running around like she is crazy. I gave her benadryle and put goldbond powder on her vagina. I had to put her back in the crate because she is getting so huffy and puffy and being crazy. Is there something I'm missing here? Shouldn't the allergey meds calm her down? I have some nystatin should I put that on her?

vaginisits?

aern't youthe same post from below about the 5 month old puppy with the vomiting. You sure do have your hands full, but she does need medical attention, if only a phone call, please dont let her suffer like that.

try some vagisil...

that might work, but in the long run you need to find out what caused this, maybe new laundry detergent?

I checked for fleas and

she doesn't have any. Her tail pocket is very clean( her tail isn't tight we have never had problems with it before either) The area around the vagina is swollen like she is going into heat in the next few weeks but not the vagina opening so much like it would be if she were in heat. There really isn't a odor or any discharge either. You can just tell its the vagina area that is bothering her. Its warm and red. I put goldbond powderon it and then put her in her crate to rest away from us since she seems to get crazy the minute I let her out. She is sleeping now. I have Amoxicillin 500mg and Nystatin ointment. Should I give her the meds? Or just watch and see if the powder works after she wakes up.

sorry to hear that

do you have Ketakonazole? This would be the choice antibiotic? things like amoxi, cephalexin, baytril are bactericidal ...Flagyl would be my second choice drug if you have it and is often used in gynecological infections but may or may not work depending on what type of infection it really is...
and use the nystain cream externally...
also add some yogurt to dogs food twice daily...1-2 table spoons

I hate to give advice over the net like this as i am not a vet but its better than your dog going untreated and being uncomfotable..

you stated you checked the dogs tail pocket? is it smelly or yeasty as well? if so use some animax or panalog or the nystatin cream in there as well...keep dry and clean..avoid using wipes..just use a wet wash cloth and then dry with towel well.

what about anal glands? Do they need to be expressed? This also causing dogs to rub thier bums..as well as worms? Is there a chance the dog could have worms..
so many different possibilies sorry..thats why it would be best to see the vet

is she swollen?

a few things.

Give her a bath, wash well and rince three times. Clean out the tail pocket and the vaginal folds. Dry well. When dry powder with gold bond. If she is swollen in her vaginal area (is she intact) if so does she have any discharge or odor? You need to find out what area is bugging her. Also check for fleas.

If she is intact, when was her last cycle? as she could have a very serious uterin infection.

The gold bond powder when mixed with yeast can get hot and feel like it's burning. you might try some monistat powder and if she has a vaginal yeast infection you can use vagisil cream.

Check for fleas, they can make them crazy too.

can't go to the vet

I got paid yesterday and have $70 left after bills to feed 6 people the next two weeks. So I need to treat this at home. I have all kinds of antibotics here but wouldn't know what to use and how much

time to see the vet

she may have vaginitis or candidis albacans sorry my spelling may be off, i am not the best speller, LOL!
If either of the above, wipes and gold bond powder will only feed the yeast and infection making it worse..

You can use the nystatin cream for now but the prblem could be working from the inside out and nystatin will only work on her external area..
