How much glucosimine to give bullie?

He is 3 1/2 years and weighs about 68 #. I am giving him osteopet tablets. Each one has 500 mg glucosimine and 125 chondrotin. The bottle says to give 3 tablets for his weight. I just thought 1500 mg glucosimine is too much. I just want it for maintanence and healthy bones and joints.
Any Advice?

Glad you have seen such quick response, but it usually

takes several weeks to see some results of joint ease, so I've been told by two different vets, but most everyone agrees this supplement should be given daily. happy.gif

glucosamine

My female is 4 years, 34 pounds and my male is 3 years, 70 pounds. I was giving them 500 mg. per day in one dose, and pretty much only when they had obvious limping, but my vet told me to up it to 1000 mg as a prophylactic every day whether I thought they needed it or not.

So far I have been using glucosamine from Petco, but I am considering changing to something I can get at Sam's or Costco. I think that glucosamine is glucosamine and condroitin is condroitin, so if I smear a little peanut butter or cheese on it, they will swallow it whole.

My daughter-in-law has a lab who is quite old and recently started having severe limping problems. Her vet prescribed 600 mg glucosamine+condroitin+soy protein, at about $50 per 30 days.

The Petco tabs or treats generally cost about 1/4 less than that for the same daily dosage and number of dosages, but still fairly expensive.

I checked at Sam's the other day, and the human tablet equivalents run about .10 per 600 mg. I'm going to try that when I run out of the treats and chewables I have.

btw, in both my case and my daughter-in-law's, the glucosamine stopped fairly alarming symptoms within a couple of days.

That's the amount I give...

I split the dose to 750 in the AM and 750 in the PM. happy.gif

I give 500 or 750mg of glucosamine to adult bullies.

The tablets have a corresponding amount of condroitin in them (tabs out of reach at the moment) but I don't personally think the dogs need 1500mg. I started using glucosamine about 15yrs ago, daily, at 500mg and when Costco stopped carrying that size, I upped to 750mg and sometimes buy it at WalMart but its getting harder to find that lower dose tabs.
