how long should it take

for a puppy (almost 5 months old) to get previous food out of his system or to get used to new food? i switched cooper to totw about a week ago & his poop is still a little soft. my 7 year old is doing great on it, though. just wondering if it's just not gonna work for him or how long i should give it before i try something else. thanks for any advise!

roanne-

the dr called & said that 1 cup 3 times a day is exactly right for cooper. how old are your girls? cooper will be 20 weeks tomorrow (may 8).

Love to know the answer when you get it.

I'm feeding that to my girls now and always wonder if I'm overfeeding or under feeding.
Thanks
Roanne

i feed canine caviar

I have feed wellness with very soft stools 8 years ago. Then we changed to timberwolf organics it was by far the best food but 75.00 a bag and 4 dogs was expensive. We changed to totw they did ok but not as good as timberwolf and it was hard to find here. We then feed natural balance and added fats as its not high enough and the coats were not great. We have been feeding canine caviar for a few months and are happy with it.

so i should feed him

bad food? just kidding! i wouldn't care about soft or firm poop if their tails weren't the way they are. i hate wiping bully butts! so, what do you feed your dogs? just curious. thanks!

thanks! i'll try

that. it seems like he's always hungry, though! he wasn't like that on his old food. i thought maybe he just really likes the totw. i actually went to a board certified internal med dr yesterday (just to have cooper checked over cuz i lost my 3 1/2 year old bully in january & now i'm paranoid), and she said she was going to call the company (totw) to find out nutritional facts & tell me exactly how much he needs right now. she thinks he's a little chubby:) i'm waiting for a call back from her, but in the meantime, i'll cut it back a little. thanks again!

the fillers are what make the stools nice and firm

soft poo is not a bad thing, just a pain for picking up. If you have a bunch of fillers they will bind the stool together. Good foods they take what they need and then poo out what is not, well they dont have the fillers so they take what they need and poo out what is not needed and its not much.

you might be over feeding

cut back by 1/8 cup and see if it helps.

Some of the better foods if you over feed they get soft stools.

2 1/2 years! don't tell me that!

he had firm poops when i got him but the breeder had him on purina puppy chow & i just have issues with corn being the first ingredient (or second for that matter), so i wanted to switch him.

No

Although, it took me 2 1/2 years to find the right one for us.

I never had a firm poop with him until TOTW.

I'd give him at least

another week or two. Hope it firms up!
